MOST 3 way plug and play - arrived!



I really only got this for the terminated ends of a length of fibre optic cable as I plan on extracting one fibre and using it to link the AMP AND DAB ECU to maintain the MOST loop. You can use the 3 way plug and play if you wish, I think my way is a bit neater.
Just pop out blue retaining pin to extract fibre optic line.



Simple case of extracting either the in or out MOST line and introducing the DAB ECU into the loop. And I stress you must take note to keep the loop going in 1 direction, the plug has arrows on it to denote direction of signal. MY15

Ok, as far as the hardware goes I'm pretty much there!
DAB ECU here.
Green plug Power/Ground is easy, have pins basically ready.
MOST is also ready, in fact easiest of the three.
Now it time to train my attention to the Coax plug which is called a Fakra. This is the one that going to take me a bit more time to research as its really something you should have already made as it has terminated ends and also a color coding system for easy identification. For example the plug coming out of the DAB ECU is white and this means that it's a "Phantom" power source and a current is passed along with RF signals through the single connection to power what it connects to, in this case the L-Band Dome on Roof and DAB/FM Amplifier.



Still waiting for new dome and amplifiers to get here but in the meantime ive been looking for supplier of these terminated cables so my next step is to work out how long I need them to be and what terminated end are required. There are quite a few different choices but basically you can have a "Jack" or a "Plug", 90 degrees, doubles etc and different colours - white_phantom power, Blue_GPS, Red_Cellular etc. MY15

Tonight's task was to identify Fakra plugs for L-Band receiver (Dome) and DAB amplifier. I've attached the identification chart for both male and female Fakra plugs. Bit hard to see from pics but using the chart you can see I've labeled to corresponding Fakra connection with appropriate Fakra housing.
If anyone is confused then basically it's a RF coax connection system.
I'll need to refer to wiring diagrams now just to verify coax destinations from DAB ECU as interestingly the two connections on the DAB Amplifier are black and white.
Next step is to decide on the specification of the coax cable itself. RG58 would be ideal otherwise RG174 or 316 and supplier can custom make. I may also look into making myself as you can buy plugs and self crimp. We"ll see.

Custom Coax cables with Fakra plugs have been ordered and should be here next week. Supplier recommended RG-316 with Teflon outer shield which I went with. I ordered a 2.4m (amplifier) and a 2m (Dome) just to be sure as you need to be careful to avoid installing cable such that it may hinder curtain airbag deployment. These lengths should be enough to make sure I'm well clear of the airbags in the roof sill.
Whilst I'm waiting I've ordered a, brand new Infact, Freelander 2 wiring loom. Two reasons, 1 so I can use the electrical schematics from Topix to build a reference for wire diameters, as there are many, dependant on their function. Secondly to have a good inventory of terminated wires with pins of good length and may be able to match colour code , if not shrink shield is a wonderful thing
Also using spare time to get things like this done!

Make sure you prime and paint the holes properly before installing. Let the paint harden for a few days before installing fitting. Paint in low humidity weather but not too hot either. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thxs Lightwater but it's the replacement Dome with DAB arial circuitry which replaces the analogue version already on the car. Just a matter of changing over. My LR authorised body shop were kind enough to paint it for me before i install it.

On that note it is possible that I will not need to install the digital dome as in Australia the signals are received using the Arial's on either rear window which sets up the diversity antennae. In other countries DAB is also
Broadcast using the L-Band Range which is where the Dome Arial is used to include it into the diversity circuit.
I probably will replace the Dome just as a future proof measure as there is talk of digital radio broadcast being further developed from Eureka format to DAB+ where L-Band will be used, I think! MY15
