I get an average of about 30 mpg if I'm careful! have been known to go down to 27 mpg or 28 but usually above 29

I get about low 30's in mine which is a mix of all sorts of driving.

I often have the display on the instant mpg reading. I've noticed that the fl2 is very heavy on fuel when accelerating up hills when the turbo is on full boost. Regularly single figure mpg readings and low teens.

That's as bad as my old v8 petrols.

Where the fl wins out is cruising on the flat under gentle boost.

weight really kills MPG, its nearly 2 tons!

its very economical downhill though. haha

we have a my11 td4 manual, local runs 2-3 miles each way in a hilly area in stop start traffic we get 27-29mpg which isnt bad really we were hoping for 30+ on a run at 70mph we get low 40's, at 56mph we get 55mpg over a long run.

I find the MPG on my 2010MY GS Manual TD4_e a little disappointing.

Given the supposed 'green' emphasis on the TD4_e I had hoped for better around town - my computer seems resolutely stuck at 28mpg. I have managed to get it to 40mpg on a motorway but that was concentrating so hard on the mpg it made driving no fun whatsoever, and a little unsafe.

That said, I have only a short commute and it is a little hilly where I live so I just shrug and put up with the urban mpg

I have achieved approx. 41 MPG - 14,6 km/lt (filled up from brim to brim at the same pump)
this is going very relaxed and changing asap in an area that is flat and using the freeway at 62 Mph - 100km/h .

the trick is not to be in any hurry...

its the second time that i get above 40 Mpg. the computer shows 42 - 43 Mpg which is incorrect .

I thought the Freelys green credentials were that it lasted longer, therefore LR didn't have to make so many replacements thus creating less co2. I read somewhere that all LandRovers were more green despite the fuel consumption as their emissions could never reach the emissions required to build them which is similar to most vehicles.  my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I live in South Africa. My Freelander SE auto diesel averages 8.7 lt per 100 km for the 1st 75000 km's all road types. Then the diff carrier bearing was replaced and after that the use increased to 11.5 lt per 100 km mostly town driving However when I hit the freeways and stay at our legal 120 kph, she improves down to 8.7 again. Can't find a logical answer. Covered 107000km to date

Also from South Africa, our 2007 Td4 S average around 12.8L/100km or 22mpg city driving(not congested). Highway goes up to about 10L/100km.

My local indy has no idea what could be the problem. What I have done to the car:

1. Egr blanked
2. DPF removed
3. Intercooler hoses replaced
4. Software reinstalled
5. Skimmed exhaust manifold and turbo and replace all gaskets
6. Fuel system cleaned
7. Intercooler chemically cleaned
8. Throttle body replaced.

I am really frustrated with this car since I bought it specifically for it's economy.

Any further ideas?

MAF or MAP sensors, heavy right foot?

All sensors cleaned, no codes. Frugal driving - I try my best to get decent consumption but not yet achieved that.

Are you measuring the actual distance and litres of fuel or just reading the mpg or l/km on the instrument panel?

Actual distance via GPS and litres used to fill - pretty close to the computer in any case.
