Has anyone changed their own cambelt??

My freelander is due a cambelt change next service and I wondered if anyone has done their own? I do a lot of home mechanic stuff like brakes, suspension and other basic stuff. I bought a haynes manual the other day and it only gives the cambelt a difficulty rating of 3 spanners (fairly difficult, suitable for a competent diy mechanic) looks straightforward but I've never done one before. I know its big bucks if done wrong. How easy is it?? Without sounding cheeky what do dealers charge for the cambelt / water pump change?

I had my cam belt, water pump and idler tensioner done for about £350 (I can't remember exact amount), I know it is satisfying to do jobs but for peace of mind I know it is done right. Plus if it goes wrong I have somewhere to go. I used an indie.

Done a few of them. Not particularly difficult, but a bit fiddly removing the starter and inserting the timing pin into the flywheel

Crank pulley bolt can be rather tight

Other than that, it's not particularly difficult Thumbs Up

In theory, up to you if you want to leave it that long. I haven't.

To be perfectly honest the car will be going up for sale after its been for a service at our local LR independent , if it was within 10,000 miles then I might consider it . I will make the new owner aware . Don't suppose any of you want a 09 plate XS FL2 ?

Local indie did mine who I have been using for 12+ years, he does all the stuff that I feel out of my depth on. You could go to a dealer, but it would cost more I would imagine.
