It is meant for what it is called - CRUISING
Try it out on a road in north Finland - set it at 80 mph and you can almost go to sleep for an hour without meeting another car on the long straight roads  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I find cruise control invaluable
* Controlling speed in average speed camera zone (A14 is littered with them)
* Good for keeping to 30mph with plod behind you
* Giving the right foot a rest on an open road (a lot easier on the continent)
