Chancellor's spending review

Many things we may wish to discuss. On a personal note, I was relieved to see no further cuts to police budgets. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Health budget in England, currently 101bn, to rise to 120bn by 2020-21

NHS in England expected to make 22bn in efficiency savings

extra 19bn by 2020-21 and the way they do this is making higher efficiency 22bn to give them the extra cashnd

I bet the NHS staff wages will not see any of it, bar the decrease due to the rehashing of paygrades due to come into force shortly Rolling Eyes Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

He's scrapped the tax credit cuts!!!!! What a wally. Giving into the mob has never worked long-term yet, and is unlikely to do so this time. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Do the Chief Constables still get chauffer driven around in top of the range Jaguars?

I know where my spending cuts would start. Not to mention its cheaper for a bobby to use his/her feet rather than some flashy panda car Smile

I'd be prepared to let them drive around in blue and white Morris 1000's though

Pathetic and stupid responses from westville and to a lesser extent heyho Rolling Eyes

There will always be the minority who mess things up or who are unprofessional but overall they do a fantastic job and keep people safe. I agree about posh cars for Chiefs but that's a separate budget from the home office. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I was having a go at your comment not you personally which is pretty clear if you read what I put. It was a ridiculous comment! The police are out there risking their lives to protect the public and all you can say is that they are on their knees - arguably in their place! LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Quite a U-turn from the Chancellor.
Can't image Mrs Thatcher doing the same in 1980, ''You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning!" Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Keep it civil please guys, there will be differing views. As ever it is important not to attack those you disagree with.

I am happy with differing views Martin but I fully admit to going for a knee jerk rant to the comment in question. Nothing personal as clarified. I appreciate your comment. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I must admit I only listened to the start of the speech and had to turn it off, I just cannot stand to hear all jeering, I find it distasteful in the light of the vast amount of hard working people out there trying to make ends meet when the privalidged few get to scoff and taunt and have very little idea how difficult life can be for some lesser privalidged than themselves. Rant over!
It appears that Ozzy had more luck than judgement because the government will see more tax revenues than they thought back in June, hence not having to make the many cuts that had been forecast. I wish my job was that easy!

We all have our opinions The Doctor. I would say I have a respect for authority and also support for our police force. But after a recent albeit pretty minor event when I had several hundred pounds worth of my possessions stolen I was frustrated by the total lack of any interest by the police.

Yes they are under staffed and under pressure and have too much red tape but it doesn't take much to show a bit of interest
