Advice Needed

Guys,

looking to run permanent power to my GPS that I'll site on my dashboard. My plan was to pick up 12v at the the rear of the power point on the middle console (the front one that's ignition switched) - however, I can't work out how to get into the rear of the plug.

I don't want to cause any damage so..... has anybody done this and how do you get access?

All help greatly appreciated!!!

Steve

I did this the other day - gently prise up the chrome gear lever surround and you can get your fingers to the bottom, just! I made up an extension flylead that plugged between the cigar spade connections and the loom plug as there was not enought lenght on the loom to pull it out to splice into.

Hi,

Author of the retro fit Kenwood here.

There is basically no slack wire on the aux sockets. You are doing well to disconnect them let alone anything else!

Do as per guide and attck them from the rear or if you are dead set on splicing into the aux sockets themselves, I did think of a way to do it.

Make up an auto grade wire lead of the same diameter as the original wiring with a male/female spade connector and incorporate a spur to enable you to connect up to your satnav. That should do the trick, but make sure it is well insulated to prevent shorting and put an inline fuse in it. Personally, I'd still do it the way I did it via the rear. There isn't a lot of room to play with, but there is enough to connect.

Hi Neil,

In relation to the chrome gear lever surround - you advise to gently prise it up. Someone else advised a few weeks ago - that it should be pushed down (to remove the chrome + soft plastic cover that surrounds the gear lever).

But you advise to prise it up - right ? Also - does it go back on again afterwards ??

thanks Thumbs Up
