Facelift Steering Different?

Hi Folks, I traded in a 2007 TD4 SE for a 2011 SD4 HSE over the weekend and the steering is quite a bit different. It feels much more weighted in this one where as my last car felt very light. I am not sure if the steering wheel is slightly smaller and thats all it is or have they changed something else? 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

That's weird, mine's the opposite, my old SE felt heavier than current MY13 HSE. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

MY2011 seem very light, I'd check your tyre pressures and maybe find someone else who has the same car, have a drive and compare.. better sorted sooner than later..

Check that the steering reservoir isn't getting blocked. There is a filter built into it that gets blocked and causes stress on the pump. Unfortunately you can't see the state of the filter unless you cut it open. However for about £25 you can get a new one. Fitting details and youtube video elsewhere on the forum. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks all. It certainly isn't heavy and there is no noise from the pump. It actually feels really nice I was just surprised it is different from the last one. I will have a look at the reservoir as suggested on another thread 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

The steering wheels are weighted, that's the idea of all the metal in this pic of mine.

Ditto Hinchy my 2013 GS is much lighter steering than my old 07 SE. Thought it would be cos the steering parts are older etc maybe?

Ahh i bet i know, the later steering wheels are weight more on one side due to the essential heated steering wheel button, thats the only logical difference. Laughing

I could say about MY11 and MY15 differences.
MY11 is very light and precise.
MY15 is harder and not as precise.

When driving about 100kmh You could rotate steering wheel very slightly a few milimetrs left and right a few times and MY11 car will react quickly and MY15 car will do nothing becase steering wheel movement is too low.

I don't belive this is tire dependent, try to do above test in your car.

It must be sth releated to power-assisted steering. Something's changed.

Wonder if MY15 steering wheel sensitivity could be adjusted (raised)?
