To save you the trouble:

SALFA24CX8H111698 to SALFA28B58H113411, build dates in May/June 2008, 429 vehicles total.

The controller circuit for the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Heater fitted to affected vehicles may short circuit. This normally results in flat battery but may also cause non starting Additionally the short circuit may cause a distinct smell from hot and/or melted components which in extreme circumstances may develop in to a fire. All of these symptoms can occur when the vehicle is in use or parked and unattended.

Had this recall on my first FL2. In late 2008 car had fuse removed to deactivate PTC heater and called back 2-3 months later to have modified one fitted early 2009 I think. This was an ex demo 1st registered March 2008. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

I remember this recall well Laughing

It was extended to all models (up to whatever the latest chassis range was)

Book time to replace was 1hr 15mins. I eventually got them down to 40 minutes, and ended up doing the vast majority of them in our dealership Rolling Eyes

Note that although the details of this recall are the same as the earlier one it was issued in October 2015 and appears to extend the number of cars affected by the equivalent of a month or so of production. Presumably they've found the faulty heaters in cars they thought were OK.

My information came from this page: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/se...CB0029B1B9

The only bulletin number I have is the one mentioned in the first post.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

Hi, Has anyone had this problem yet?

I meant to check my Chassis number at the weekend but forgot, and Mrs Browny90 has the car today Crying or Very sad

The reason I ask is that my 2011 (January) FL2 had a "hot smell" when I went into Nottingham on saturday, the engine temp was as normal and there were no other cars around me. it definetly smelt like it was actually in the car..

so my question is, whats the likelyhood of my car was built in 2008 and registered in 2011.. I will check the Chassis Number tonight to confirm..

Thanks

Browny

Smell could be from the DPF regenerating, it gets extremely hot when doing so?

I would say there is zero likelihood of it being built that long ago. Was most probably built in late 2010 at the very earliest as there are multiple interior and exterior trim differences as well as mods under the skin.
