Has anyone replaced the Power Steering HP supply pipe to steering box themselves? How do I disconnect the short pipe at the box end from the longer pipe coming from the pump? The replacement pipe part (LR029185) supplied only has the supply and return pipe sections at the steering box. The return line connection looks straight forward but the supply connecter is not so clear on this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks. I had actually found this already while looking for some details on the connector, putting it together looks easy enough its removing the old pipe without damaging the section from the pump that concerns me as it is not clear how they come apart. Thanks again for your post.

I too have a very rusty supply pipe at the rack end and was considering changing it. I assumed the pipe came complete from pump to rack. Your post suggest that it comes in two parts, how did you get on with separating and reconnecting this pipe please?

Hi, as you can see from the drawing posted by RichP in reply to my original post, only the bottom sections at the rack of both the supply and return pipes are supplied.

The return pipe section appears straight forward enough to disconnect and replace although I actually didn't do this as the original is still in good condition. I was however unable to disconnect/separate the supply pipe section at the connection, even with some considerable force pulling and rotating it wouldn't budge and I assumed it was seized.
I went ahead and purchased the top section of the supply pipe and when it arrived I found that, along with an 'o' ring within the connection there is a 'spring clip' that lodges in behind a shoulder on the bottom pipe section when it is inserted and this locks the pipe in. So to be honest I am not sure I would ever have been able to split the connection without incurring some damage to it, perhaps the pipe comes in two sections to allow installation or perhaps there is a tool to separate it? Maybe someone else has a better explanation?

Thanks for the info, at least I know I must buy both bits of the pipe now. I assume you had no other issues doing this job. Obviously another common problem as the pipe sits pretty much in the wheel well.

No other issues. No real problem with access at the rack, I had the car up on axel jacks and once the wheel was off and with the steering on full left lock there was enough room. The only real problem I had was the weather, I live on the west coast and do not have a garage therefore getting enough 'dry' time to do the job over that last couple of weeks was quite a challenge!!!

Job turned into a bit of a nightmare. My return pipe was also in a state, so much so that was seized in the rack and broke off during my attempts to free it/get the feed pipe off around it. I have been unable to remove the remaining piece after several hours, so have to change the rack. I guess you have never removed the rack, but if you have did you need to drop the subframe?

Hi, Sorry to hear that. You are right I have not changed out the rack, but according to the Haynes manual the subframe would be removed first.

It doesn't need completely removed, but does need lowered down at the back

Any info on this job would be greatly appreciated. Can you undo the rear subframe mounts and probably the anti roll bar links, and lower the rear end only, or do the lower wishbones at each side need removing as well, along with the front mounts. I don't want to remove anything that I don't have to. Many thanks in advance.

The rear of the subframe comes down easily enough, though I can't remember if the front end needs loosened to allow it to drop

The first couple of racks I replaced, I removed the subframe complete, until I Sussed it can be done without full removal. It has been a while since I last done one though
