Hella Rallye 3003 Compacts are an excellent unit built to OEM quality. They come in a range of beam patterns and a bit of shopping around should find some in your budget. I've had them on my D2 for 4 years.

Found some Rallye 3003 compacts for £120. I belive you get them in either driving or pensil beams.

If you use the bonnet release cable route, be careful with the bulkhead grommet. On my MY2007 it popped out and was a to get it back in due to the lack of access. Seem to remember that due to access I had to route the relay switch cable from inside the car (remove the glovebox) out into the engine compartment.
