What planet is Gambba on? Do you work for Land Rover PR? What is the point of a forum if you only send in positive feedback? People who are unhappy with their cars should not be afraid of letting their views be known. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

Owned a FL2 since November 07. No problems with the car at all. No leaks, no sqeaks or rattles, nothing showing wear on this or that. Luvely plumage and the most enjoyable car I have driven for years Thumbs Up .
Only niggles are several design niggles and grommits that drop out on each wash Neutral

So Eskdale - the FL2 is not a lot of S Censored T (sorry - poo-poo) as you put it, you have just been unlucky, can happen with any make maybe Question But I guess you could have claimed a LR buyback and got some japcr@p instead Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

It seems to me that some people believe that at the price they have paid for the FL2 they expect for things to work first time (especially if they have been used to german engineering or even high end japanese).

there is nothing wrong with that sort of expectation, the average Brit seems to expect a certain amount of bad quality/service as long as the leg isn't lifted to high.

I had a non functioning Bluetooth which was replaced, it took 3 months to source the part and a number of chasing calls, but apart from that I am happy my purchase and struggle to contemplate a credible alternative so have resigned myself to the odd niggle along the way Sheep

The eldest child is six feet tall, so vehicles like the Kuga and Tiguan simply aren't big enough in the back (nor wide enough really) for three fighting teenagers. The Rav4 was OK as well in the back, but not really in the same league as the FL2.

The BMW seems good on paper (especially as a company car with lower emissions), but not when you need to pay extra for all the good bits (Satnav, leather, etc.) that the FL2 includes as standard in the better models.

I think I'll arrange a test drive, and perhaps even try the auto...

You won't regret it if you go for the FL2. I have the auto and it is fantastic, although it is very thirsty when local running and the difference in emissions (and hence tax) is a bit of a shock.

How can you say you do not like the look of the new X-Trail ..... it looks just like the last one Question

MY 57 TD4 GS is one year old mid Oct I've done 22k had an oil change at 8k full service at 15k. just changed my wheels and tyres but would of probabley needed tyres at 24/25k, mixture of extra rural country lanes and motorways. not had ANY problems or Gripes what'so ever. I drive her hard- red line gearchanges etc. 28mpg

Due to my low boredom threshold I normally have a couple of cars at any one time, but I only have one now as I just love driving the FL2 and plan to keep her for a few years-maybe a better spec'd FL2 next or a RRS- but might be too big for the narrow lanes where i live??
over the last few years I've run a (54) FL1 3dr TD4, (05) A4 2.0 td Quattro(99) BMW 840csi, (06) X3 2.0d (04) 530d touring, (04) Impreza wrx Sportback, (03) Volvo V40 T4, (54) Renault espace 2.2 TD, (03) Ford maveric TD (53) Golf GTTDI,

Rowy have no fear the RRS is 10mm narrower than the Freelander 2............................
RRS is 2170mm wide with the mirrors out F2 is 2180mm.
RRS is 1784mm high at Normal road height, F2 is 1772mm
RRS is 4788mm long, F2 is 4500mm
Figures from Land Rover website

So there isn't much in it size wise! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen
Defender 90 County HT in Epsom Green

Read again, and you'll see I am not saying not to voice problems, but I find it a little worrying when someones first post is just flamming a product....and this is based on my years on forums where unfortunately people sometimes like to sign up just to cause a little trouble.

I think Eksdale has points, but the way they were put across I did not find very constructive as they did not explain the problems and basically the first line of someones first post should not just say something is a "POS" in my opinion otherwise it makes me think possible forum troll.

The best way of passing on information is to make it constructive and purposeful, of which ranting is neither! Whistle

In addition as I said I think Eksdale should start a new thread and let us know all of his problems in detail so it does not get mixed up in this one and provides useful info.

It's all just my opinion............. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

A dodgy car can be a real pain but as has been said, it affects every manufacturer. I've had a merc go back on low loader after 2 hours of ownership, I've had an Audi blow up after 60 miles - it happens. I've also have tens of thousands of trouble free miles from both brands. As I know from other forums though, some cars just seem to be lemons. Fix one fault and another pops straight back up. Nobody's fault, they just crop up. I would contact LR and the dealer and tell them you are rejecting the car and want a deal to replace it. But, don't think all LRs are afflicted.

I've just posted about a LR away day. What I didn't mention is that whilst charging around in a brand new v8tdi sport, all of a sudden lots of warning lights came on, "F" popped up on the display and it didn't want to play any more. Rather embarresing for the organisers as I was parked right in the middle of the braking excercise for 10 mins whilst they sent out a replacement and recovery vehicle but hell, it happens. I just thought it was funny - with the drivers on the radio trying to say what the problem was without actually saying anything. But, the point is, I didn't see any other 20 cars abandoned on the track and we were giving them a fair amount of abuse, and the others I drove were all great and didn't miss a beat. So, faults happen - its life.

My FL2 has been back to the dealer maybe 4 times since Jan. None of the issues have been serious but as Npinks, we get a nice loaner for the day and it isn't that far to go so why put up with even small niggly faults? I run a merc, have run audis, and I can't say the fl2 is any better or worse in this category. Small faults do crop up on complex cars. I've just had to have several silly things fixed on the merc - faults happen.

Anyway, as I say, if yours is spending more time in the workshops than on your drive I'd sit down with the dealer principal and see what can be done to get you out of a car you don't trust, and into a new one that you can. It is not unheard of in these situations for dealers and the manufacturer to get together and make you an offer you can't refuse. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

Norway 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Caspian Blue

Interesting post, this..... Well, here is my contribution:

A little over a year ago I tested FL2, X3, Citroen C-Crosser (same as Mitshubishi Outlander) and Huyndai Santa Fe. Also tested Touareg (Lovely car, but a bit too expensive). Nissan never crossed my mind. I sat in one for a few seconds at the dealer, and got out quickly. I simply tried the door-test.
(Sit in the car, and close the door, and listen. Then you have the quality of the car)

X3 was stiff and uncomfortable, and the FL2 was superior to X3 in my view. C-Crosser was boring (except for a very responsive and fast engine - which is the same engine as in FL2), and Santa Fe was surprisingly comfortable to drive. Anyway, we decided to order the FL2, and got it early January.

It is lovely to drive, and has been a real joy. -Except for the 5 times I had to go back for software-upgrade in February and March.
First the wipers were changed, then a flat battery twice. Well, it has now been faultless since spring, and it is a joy to drive. Very comfortable. Would I buy it again? YES!

Right now I suspect there may be something wrong with my SAT/NAV, as it suggests very strange routes.
Will have that checked when I find the time.

Test-drive yourself, and see what you think.

Maybe this comparison X-Trail vs Freelander 2 will help?

Couldn't agree with you more there and was the car I was really aiming for especially as it really can go offroad, but the price made the LR2 look like a bargain....plus I would have had to go for the V8 model as the V6 would have left me wanting Very Happy Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

Thanks all, that's certainly given me something to think about... I'd forgotten that they did a direct comparison (X-Trail v LR2) on Fifth Gear, so thanks for the reminder. Not a very fair comparison though, with an obvious winner...

I think I'll definitely get the half day test drive that my local dealer has offered (even after I admitted that it will be a lease hired company vehicle)...
