Extended Warranty

Just coming up to three years with my present FL2. No major issues with the car and 20000 miles on the clock.
Just cannot justify changing to the new Sport.
So, extended warranty for piece of mind and if I do decide to change in the near future, will the fact the car has a warranty affect selling price?
However, reading previous posts on this subject, I am right in even considering paying for such an insurance?
I went online to Warranty Direct Ltd, who quoted something in the region of £1200 for two years. They use repairers other than Landrover, to keep costs down amongst other things. Mileage is restricted to 12000 per year.
Landrover themselves quoted £595 for one year.
This morning I received a phone call from Warranty Direct, who, after an extended discussion, undercut the Landrover quote by £100 for a 2 year contract. Also stating I could use Landrover dealership for repairs.
Warranty Direct comes recommended by 'Honest John' in the Telegraph.
Still wondering ............ One Discovery, gone

Personally I would save your money. I ran my last FL2 for 4 years after the warranty ran out and it was fine. The warranty on my current FL2 runs out in a month and I am not bothering to extend it or buy another warranty.

If your car has been reliable, it is unlikely that it is suddenly going to turn into a really unreliable car over night.

On the other hand, if you have a problem car it is worth thinking about. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

LR will likely contact you asking if you want to renew your warranty. Their full kahuna warranty is about £600 but from my own experience it is well worth it.

*edit* just reread your post and can see you know about the LR one. For me the £600 was worth the peace of mind. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

My son had a Porsche with Warranty Direct and found it hard going. Initially they sent out an engineer to inspect the car, then when we had a fan on one of the radiators fail so had to pay for dismantling to get the fan out before they would even consider it (£50 excess too). Then we had a headlamp washer problem (Xenon lights) and they said it wasn't covered. When he replaced it he bought from a Porsche Centre with extended warranty (very similar to LR in my experience and very helpful with any issues).
I take the view that if you want to own a LR and want to sleep at night then it's going to cost you so buy from a LR dealer, get it serviced there and get a proper warranty. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have to agree. If you play by the rules and use the manufacturer approved route, if things go T.U. it's much easier to throw up your hands and say you have done everything you're told to do and now it's up to the manufacturer/dealer to sort it. Yes it's probably more expensive but you're paying for that ability to push back, and hard. Once the car is long in the tooth I agree it's uneconomic, but if you've paid upwards of £30K for a vehicle, it doesn't make sense (to me at least) to unnecessarily scrimp elsewhere and give the manufacturer/dealer an excuse to wash their hands.

My experience of the LR warranty says it is the only way to go. It costs more but never any query/refusal. Posts I have seen here and elsewhere tell me Warranty Direct will quibble about anything just to avoid a payout. Not too trusting of Honest John either come to that. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Also don't forget that warranty Direct have a £50 excess on any claim and that the LR Warranty includes LR Assist and MOT failure (albeit with a £50 excess although they didn't charge me anything when I had a failure due to headlamp alignment). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated.
For my own piece of mind, I will probably go with LR.
Can't really go along with Warranty Direct, who after questioning their quote, referred it to his 'manager' and quickly reduced their original quote!
Problems when it comes to claiming also does not help.
Thanks guys. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up One Discovery, gone

Well our 2008 plate one went wrong lots, but the repair bills were far less than the warranty would have cost, and we got an exgratia payment from Landrover to help with costs! 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

I went with Land Rover Warranty last month when mine reached 3 years. £595 for the higher cover option and will sleep well at night.

We are in the same boat. I think the landrover warranty also includes breakdown cover.... That would be another £100 or so. (AA. RAC etc)
Our Warranty my runs out in Jan. also our local dealer will do the 3 year old service price deal.

ps. my first post as a Landrover owner... Wink

Re: Extended Warranty

Prob worth taking the warranty. Considering how much repair costs can cost. Landy has now gone.

I have had 2 extended warranties from LR now. First came with the car but after I used the warranty 3 times for repairs which cost more than £3k for the warranty company I renewed it this year. I am just about to have the throttle body replaced at an LR dealer which will likely cost close to or more than the cost of the warranty plus I still have 8 months cover left. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Loch Lomond Landy, how did you manage £595. I've just renewed my Extended Warranty for another year and it was £795.00! Always did think things were more expensive down here….
