apparently white was called ''wait a long while white'' in the trade as they couldn't shift them quickly for many years. I was once told it was because certain models (RR, Vauxhall and Ford particularly) resembled ex Police cars too closely

Now white flies off the forecourts quicker than the dealers can overprice them, although I believe red is now making comeback.
