Wiper issues

My 08 FL2 has wiper issues. Sometimes they work fine, other times they don't.

- Rear wiper works when it feels like it (not very often)
- Auto wipers have always worked fine apart from one occasions where they stopped completely (as did all other wiper settings)
- Slow and Fast modes often just don't work.
- Windscreen wash normally requires me to push _very_ hard on the button for it to operate (although sometimes works just fine)
- Swipe operation normally requires me to press the stalk down _very_ firmly for it to work (also works fine sometimes)

I have had no issues with the wipers parking at all. When they work, they park correctly every time. This in mind and the fact that my wiper issues are suffered on front and rear (so spanning both motors) leads me to believe the motors are fine.

I'm thinking this might just be an issue with the stalk so I was thinking of picking one up cheap (scrappy maybe). If I do this, I could do with some info on the replacement procedure. I have the workshop manual and take it that it's in there, anyone know which part of the manual it will be in? Had a look through the wiper/washer doc but couldn't find it (was browsing on mobile though so wasn't ideal, I need desktop access so I can search the docs).

Or... am I barking up the wrong tree and should be looking at other parts of the system than the stalk?

I have just had my wiper stalk changed under warranty, basically if you pulled it back to wash the rear window than the rear wiper would keep going until you did a quick wash of the front ones! It was something I could live with until the car went in for a service. The dealer replaced it, the bill said LLR017769 £122.96 plus vat. !
I had a similar thing happen on a stalk from a Renault Megane a few years back and I removed and dismantled it and greased everything and it was OK afterwards. The problem is that it's a sort of 3 dimensional switch with springs and things that can fly out and if you screw up you had better have a spare available but at this price I would have a go at squirting WD40 in an available orifice for a start. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion. Not sure where I'd squirt it though, maybe take some panels off?

Could still do with some pointers with a full replacement if anyone has any? Someone must have done it Smile
