Used them to supply brake parts for mine. No complaints.

Did take a RRS out for a test drive from there, it was nearly purchased.

I can speak for two:

Stratstone Cheltenham - have bought 2 cars there and a lot of services. They are efficient and helpful when dealing with warranty issues, but their used stock tends to be be above your budget.

M J Fees of Wotton under Edge - I used these for some of my servicing as it was on my way to work. Very impressed but they no longer sell new cars so stock may be limited. Worth a try.

Manual or Auto?

Down to preference, but having owned a 2007 manual TD4 and a 2011 Auto SD4, these are my observations:

Auto is better for towing and off road, as it is better able to stand heavy use. The manual clutch seems only just up to the job and problems are common at 70k. Replacement is around 700 at LR prices and DMF failure can be as much again.

I found the manual smoother for road driving, but this may be down to my driving style. Certainly the auto box, while not bad, is not the best on the market. In particular I find it difficult to come to a stop without jerking. However it does the job and you can use Command Shift to change manually.
Expect to lose around 2 - 3 mpg for the auto.

The handbrake is rubbish, and it is comforting to have the Park function of the auto, unless you can get into the habit of leaving it in gear. Also left foot braking is useful for hill starts with the auto.

If the cars been standing a while say at the dealers and they just start it to move it around the forecourt then switch off the battery is probably not at full charge so the stop start might not work until its had a real good run, it wont work if you have the air con on or any other heavy demand items either.
Try trickle charging the battery over night to give it a good boost, it will probably start working then, provided the battery is a good one, if its the original it might be on its way out?? another reason the stop start wont work?

England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

That's a great looking Freely, Tolley. I wish it had been an option when we bought ours, but the grey one was the only used one we fancied at the time. Welcome to the fold.

We used Cotswold Motoring Services in Stonehouse when we had a problem with ours on holiday earlier this year. Recommended as a good independent. http://www.cotswoldmotoringservices.co.uk/ Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne
