anyone know of a glue to use to fix fibreglass? i have a kneeboard that has been bumped and from the impact it has split the edge a little

i'm thinking a waterproof glue, injected in so a bit runny will be beneficial and then clamp it till dry

Water proof, transparent would be a bonus

Would the two part fibreglass kits be of any benefit? Just wondering what kind of stress would be on the glue from the split? Whether filling, reforming the edge with a small patch kit would be better? I repaired two windsurfing boards with the two part tin kits, obviously was then waterproof and sanding smooth to a new edge.

Gorilla glue would do it I would have thought. You would need to get moisture in there as it cures in the presense of moisture and clamp it as it will expand a bit. Just be careful as it is a to get off anything.

Getting the inside dry will be the biggest challenge. Next challenge is getting sufficient bond area.

There are only two methods, using styrene (fibreglass resin) and hardener or an epoxy system West or SP Systems. Blake 2 part epoxy paint will also work but that is coloured. As said you will need to protect the area around repair to save yourself a lot of work removing over spill, releasing agent is pretty cheap. Best to arrange for a clamping system with plywood to ensure the gap will close before injection, you need a big hypodermic syringe with a largish bore needle due to the high viscosity of styrene. I have never used fibreglass resin, but read that you can add 3-7% more resin than hardener to allow more spreadable resin, i was pondering if this would then make it more injectable and penetrate further in

Whatever you use to bond the crack - make sure the two face do meet properly before injecting/applying - you may find it useful to use a long thin sharp blade (like those snap off ones) to just clean out the shards and debris to ensure a clean join. Take your time and use a magnifying glass to check progress.
Strong clamps and leave well alone until you are absolutely certain they have bonded before removing the clamp(s)
