I think the minimum is 3mm,it's becoming standard practise to change discs at same time as pads, got mine from Eurocarparts online think it was about £300 all round they had an offer on at the time but they usually do Very Happy

Sweden

I have recently replaced the front pads on my 2011 SD4, at approx 70,000miles.
They were down to 2-3mm, which as has been said, is the recommended minimum thickness.

I did notice that the feel of the brakes had started to "drop off" -they had lost the initial bite, and we're feeling a bit "dead".

As said, very easy straightforward job (luckily had access to a lift, which made it more pleasant...)

-oh, and the discs were fine.

The early asbestos-free pads were very aggressive to discs, but I have found that they are better these days.
-just my subjective view...
