Anyone bought a car via eBay?

Just wondering if anyone has as I've looked on there out of curiosity as well as autotrader. The majority of sellers have shed loads of 100% feedback.

Not me but relatives have and have yet to be disappointed, basically if you go to get it and its not as described you can walk away, no worse than an ad in auto trader etc and at least you can judge the seller from feedback before you bid. At work

It does depend on if they are a business or private sellers.

Some businesses will use ebay to shift dodgy cars as private so no comebacks.

Its a bloody nightmare buying a car. We took weeks to find one.

We have a 3 month warranty on it and they have fixed the fuel filler, installed a new one (old one not locking), new spare wheel, will be fitting a new window closing system and a rear door lock (usual issue, wont lock/open with central locking).

So its worth the few extra quid paid from a dealer imho sometimes

I've never bought a car from eBay but have bought and sold several motorbikes and scooters. Just take all the usual precautions - check feedback scores obviously, always go to see the car before bidding and make sure you can get an AA or RAC inspection done. Previous to all that, check the "Sold" listings to see what similar cars have brought - eBay does tend to be cheaper than what you see advertised because you can actually see the sale prices. Good luck. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

never bought a car from eBay, but know a couple of people who have bought on Gumtree with reasonable success.

you really need to know what you're looking for in a vehicle and where the problems lie.

unless you are very competent in this area I would avoid as easy buy a pig in a poke.

10 years ago, you used to be able to pick up some proper bargains from eBay. Now, not so much

Friends of the seller bid the car up from a low starting fee, to avoid listing and reserve fees. Then they get relisted
People bidding on cars with no intentions of buying, wasting everyone's time
So many scams out there, on a daily basis

Almost not worth the hassle

Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers gets a lot of his cars from e bay and he always gets them for half the asking price. Rolling Eyes

Like a Porsche Boxster with a faulty gearbox that turns out to be just a loose self tapper or a 205GTi thats smoking like a trooper because of a slack gear knob Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes so you might get a bargain who knows Laughing

I sold both of my Evoque's on ebay & neither buyer even wanted to test drive it. I prepared them to my normal high standard & that was enough for them.

My Freelander Metropolis will be going on ebay after Christmas (sadly). (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
(Past) RR Evoque Dynamic Lux Si4 In Firenze Red.
(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.
(Present) Freelander Metropolis 2015 MY In Santorini Black with Ivory Premium Leather.

I have purchased many cars off Ebay - sight unseen.
Always read the description very carefully, and several times.
Ask lots of questions, and as CG says, when you go and view, if it is not as described. Walk away.

Cars purchased on Ebay for me and family, include
Mazda Bongo Campervan
2 yr old XC90,
2 x 3 yr old Mondeos
1 x ford focus
2 x renault clio's
a couple of Citroen's

my 3 FL2 deals were done over the phone - I never viewed any of them before hand.

Never put a foot wrong.
