DOH!!! Senior Moments

Anyone else done this...

Got in the car foot on clutch pressed the button - nothing
Did it again music played but did not start
Panic - could this be my first break down in the Freelander? Oh no what's gone wrong?
Foot off clutch - foot back on again - pressed button again - nothing
Did it again music played but did not start
Repeat a number of times before real;ising - yes you've got it - I was pressing the radio on/off button and not the start button Rolling Eyes

Ring your GP first thing tomorrow and write it down in case you forget it. Laughing Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

In our defence - as another serial "why isn't it starting? Duh oh duh, I am pressing the wrong button...... " offender, there is some blame to be shared by the designers of the starty buttons.
The functional ergonomics are not actually well designed.
You press a button in to start the car, you also press a button in to start the radio, you also press one of the same buttons in to stop the car and you also press one of the same buttons in to stop the radio. Some of us also have to contend with that idiotic springy clicky in and out key fob thingy - you press it in to engage it and you also press it in to have it spring back out.
In a moment of seniority it is all to easy to get in a muddle. Just as well one of the buttons isn't "Press to fire the forward rocket launcher....."
Proper functional ergonomics dictate that you should do a different action to differentiate between start and stop - hence those old enough to remember such things would remember the "pull to stop" button on tractors of yesteryear.
A more cognitive radio switch could for example be rotary - rotate to right and it clicks on, rotate left and it clocks off - simple!
Even my old Morris Minor had a nice "pull to start" button. Can't remember how it stopped , other than when it broke down........

Having moved back to an auto I keep going to press the clutch to start, just can't get out the habit, only had the manual 6 months. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
