Halogen v Xenon head lights

What's the difference between halogen and Xenon head lights on 2015 Freelanders? The later costs more. What benefit do you get for your money?

Xenon produce a far crisper, brighter, whiter light. Ive just gone from halogen to xenon and would not think twice about paying extra everytime for HID.

I always had halogen headlights my DS was the first car I had with xenons now I wouldn't take a car without them. I just managed to add them to my 16MY Disco.

Halogen is a dull yellow

Xenon is a sharp/crisp white light 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

HIDs are lights they should be fitting as standard instead of an extra, halogens are rubbish by comparison.

What he said.

Also, there are plenty of threads here on upgrading your Halogens to better bulbs, such as Osram Nightbreakers, or Philips Xtreme. Both of which are a massive improvement over standard halogen bulbs, and its also pretty cheap and quick to do yourself. (Even the Halfords "top end" bulbs are a huge improvement over the standard ones that come in FL2's

Though, My current MY13 FL2 had excellent Halogens bulb/lenses, and were far superior to the ones fitted in my previous earlier model FL2's. I still upgraded though Very Happy

Thanks for the advice. Reason for asking is I'm comparing the spec of the 2015 se tech to the metropolis, and wondering what the advantage of Xenon's is. If I get a FL2 with xenon what it is the rough price of a replacement bulb? Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

I retro-fitted Xenon's to mine and the difference is chalk and cheese. An expensive option but I would never buy another car without them. Don't waste your time or money on cheapo HID kits.

adding a Xenon bulb conversion kit, will give you a lot more light for little money ( i did this once ), but the existing lenses arnt designed for such bulbs, and you will produce a lot of glare - and could fail a MOT.
Best way is to add new LR Xenon lenses and bulbs, which is what I have now.

I just bought a pair of xenon lights (original equipment) off ebay, and had the car coded to enable them.
Quick and simple.
I went from my 07 Freelander with factory fit xenon's to a 60 plate with standard lights - they were shocking.
What I should have done in hindsight was have the xenon's out of my old car before getting rid of it.
I now have a spare set of standard headlights, so if I buy another in future, I can swap out my xenon's for the original candles.

I know I'm likely to get ripped to shreds for this but I think most vehicle lights are way too bright these days & have become dangerous. In particularly those giving out white light or those using LEDs. Fine on a dark road on your own maybe, but the light intensity effectively blinds others to anything not illuminated to the same levels & you totally lose your night vision. Some of this may be down to poor adjustment (everyone can twiddle at will these days). But I also find DRLs a real pain for the same reason & can't look at cars with them switched on. If it hasn't got a bright light, it isn't there...

The OEM Fitted Xenon Headlight should last the lifetime of the vehicle. Third-party replacements will vary but seem to be about 10,000 hours.

I have the standard lights in my 07 & never feel the need for anything brighter. I think they are rather good & they don't vaporise the oncoming traffic.

If your blinded by factory xenons then that person has their beam to high. I do agree aftermarket kits fitted into headlamps not designed for them produce glare and are dangerous.
