The DS haldex is 4KG lighter other than that it's the same. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200 |

To allow for the extra weight I have put on! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In simple terms unless you specify "Active Driveline" there is no difference apart from the Haldex being Gen V which is a simplified version of Gen IV fitted to later FL2.

As above the Haldex is now Gen V, and only time will tell what effect the weight saving has on reliability! But are we really sure the diff is exactly the same? Have they really not addressed the nose bearing issue? Seems hard to believe they wouldn't do something about such a common fault.

Yes i guess you need that sort of capability in Chelsea in case you have to mount the pavement when you drop Horatio off at his school. |

Not even importing the "active driveline" into Australia as the Evoque 2WD version was such a sales dissaster! JLRA are avoiding anything which links LR with 2WD apparently. MY15

I don't actually have a problem with the 2WD versions - they're the ones the townies should be buying! What I do have a problem with is the 4x4 version also being aimed at the same target group with all kinds of unreliable and expensive stuff added to that version just for them. Why not have a 2WD version for those who don't need 4WD, and a proper 4x4 version for those who need it, and leave it at that. I know why really, of course - it's because the townies all want the prestige of a 4x4 even though a 4x2 would better suit their needs. |

I have just been reading up on the active drive line. Sounds horrendous. You can imagine that it will work OK for a few years and then you start to get connector problems, clutch problems etc and more electrics to go wrong. I would just settle for a centre diff lock. Perhaps it's a way of selling extended warranties. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Why cant "townies" have the AWD versions? Surely you must know that even in the dry weather AWD grip is far superior than the 2WD equivalent. Not to mention in the wet! Yes they dont need it for its off road ability ![]() ![]() MY15 Xenon Headlight Conversion MY17 RRS SVR - Estoril Blue Cirrus/Ebony 🪣💺’s |

Of course they can choose the 4WD version - but it should be a proper 4WD, not some kind of expensive Frankenstein creation that's part 4WD, part 2WD, and part marketing exercise. AD just goes far too far for my liking - it turns a 4WD into a 2WD nearly all the time in the interests of marketing and saving a couple of mpg. No thanks! If I buy a 4WD I want 4WD all the time. (Not that I get it from the Haldex either, but enough already!) |
