Headrest DVD installs?

Hi guys

Anyone here got pics or vids on a Headrest DVD screen install on a Freelander? My car's a 2011 HSE with leather seats.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather have a permanent power wiring setup as opposed to a cigarette light 12V socket setup, but any advice at all will be great.

PS. I've seen a fuse box in the boot, any chance i could wire these back into this box?

cheers guys![/b][/i]

UPDATE:

Hi guys

not much feedback on this so let me change the question up slightly:

Found a nice set of Headrest monitors on eBay, seller is eonon, seem very legit. Screens look sweet too. Only issue is they warn about installing these onto electric or air-bag fitted seats.

Anyone know of these screens - quality? Or has anyone fitted headrest screens on an HSE or Freelander with electric/air-bag seats?

cheers

i installed Rosen AV7500 in my car about a month ago, ran the wires down the insides of the seats, out through the bottom and connected it all up under the passenger seat, powered from the piggy back fuse and blackvue's power magic from the fuse board behind the glove box Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

ive got some Xtron dvd players in the headrests, they were already in the car when i bought it. Same as previous post really, the wires for mine are connected to the rear aux power which is an always on feed (have to make sure the kids turn them off when getting out or they stay on even once key is out ignition). The wires run up the inside of the back of seat to the headrests.

The poles for the headrests are not wide enough in diameter so there are some aftermarket tube like things which push into the headrest holes to compensate for the thinner poles if that makes sense.

Each screen is totally independent or the other, the screen lifts up to allow for the dvd to be put in. 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

hi freelander2002

really appreciate the feedback. So in principle the cables CAN be fitted through leather, electric seats (though i imagine its not easy feat).

So i just need to determine the easiest way to power these now - i prefer using the fuse box in the boot, unless someone suggests otherwise.

thanks again Thumbs Up

i only figured it out as one of the dvd players went off, the connector had pulled apart slightly. But anyway, if you look under the seat where the back meets the bottom....there should be a plastic runner type thing which runs the width of the seat back. its a funny interlocking clip type thing, separate the two and then honestly you can probably just about lay on your back in the rear footwell like i did and get your arm 99% of the way up the back.

Connecting the back to the bottom again takes a few goes but once you do it once its a doddle.

A few attempts and some skinless knuckles later Censored and i sorted it out.

Only thing i have figured out is sometimes (like in my case) the connector which is about half way along the wire to the headrest can disconnect when moving the seat about, i think it just snags in the back if moving the seat alot. 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

At the bottom of each seat the back meets the base and it connected by a set of plastic trims, that slot into each other, pry these apart and then you should have enough room to get your hand/arm up the back of the seat, and reach a cable you have fed down the headrest mount

I did this and once worked out took 10 mins to feed both wires down the back, tape up with felt tape and route to the installation of the junction box mine has

I did this wearing a work shirt and came away reasonably clean after so it's not a dirty hard job to do Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

BTW - remember to route the cable through the centre console and splice into the FRONT cigarette lighter socket. That way their power goes on and off with your ignition. The rear is an always on connection and so the dvd's only need to be left on once and your battery will drain pure DEAD and leave you stranded.##It's worth the extra 15 mins to thread them through to avoid the hassle of... (a) shouting at the kids to turn them off everytime and (b) the dreaded dead battery each time they forget...

members here kindly helped me out on which wires to join on this wiring thread here... http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic24108.html

I bought earlier this year (my car is 2008) the genuine land rover kit included the full wiring kit, replacement console and wireless headphones I think the number was LR004175.
Many threads on this forum if you search.
As mentioned by others, cables run via the poles in headrest to under the centre console which is removed during install.

Ok, went to take some measurements of my OEN headrests as i want to buy 9" screens with 25cm headrests. I found that i was not able to pull these OEM headrests out. I pinch/press the clip the left stalk, then slide them up as far as they can go, expecting them to then slide out like in all my other cars. However, they appear to be locked into place.

Any advice on pulling these out?

On a related note, i can confirm my seats have the AIRBAG tag on the outer rear trim. Will this impede the feeding of the headrest DVD cables through the back?

appreciate the help guys. Thumbs Up

Mine are leather seats with airbags and the cables just run down the back of the seats so no issues there...
