Chrome Grille trim and interior trim & other budget face

Today i made my first minor mods to my new car.

I like the new grille design of the 2013 MY but am not sure i want to pull the old grill and possibly bumper off so i bought some chrome trim from halfords and 10 mins later i went from this....

to this.....

Although it is not exactly the same as the 2013 face lift (most notably does not have the black surround) it is close enough for me to give the styling effect i like. Im pleased with it.

Then i decided to make a mod to the trim inside the car. I should say that i really dont like adding things for the sake of it - especially unecessary shiney bts but i thought the dark wood trim on my car could do with something to help 'lift' it a little.
This is what it looks like as standard.

I added some chrome trim under the wood and i think it really works. I know it wont be to everyones taste but i think it makes the cabin slightly more classy. Any thoughts? It is obviously easily removed if requiered.

I really like that, it does look like it should be like that. Nice mod.

Thumbs Up

Is it just some sort of chrome adhesive that you buy in a reel from halfords?

Thanks chaps.
Yes it is fibresafe. There are two widths. I'll check out the packet and see what this one was. I think it is 7mm wide.

Good job, nice to see some different mods Thumbs Up

Did the grill chrome thing to mine last year, though now changed it to black [& have added spotlights].
The silver trimmed fog bezels also update the look.

Also added a chrome strip to each of the door cards.
Though probably won't show up too much with beige/black interior

FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Oh and another tip
Also added a couple of some vertical chrome strips on the dash ... matches the vertical silver on the steering wheel.
[done before the doorcard strip was applied]

Yes it looks like it but the one in halfords is the same price and comes with quality 3m tape too.
It's not 15m long but there is more than enough Smile

So...continuing with my 'facelift on a budget'...i decided to tackle the fog light bezels next.

I removed the existing bezels and cleaned them thoroughly....then sprayed them with bumper prep spray (pre paint application available from Halfords)

I then masked up the bezel carefully.

The key to masking up the inner curve successfully was to use small pieces of masking tape so you can get a small portion of the curve covered by bending the tape edge. If the tape is too long, it will pull away from the surface.

The outer edge is masked and allowed to extend over the outside vertical edge of the ring. I then used a long retractable craft knife blade to cut the tape away from the ring by holding the blade flat against the mesh surface of the bezel and carefully rotating around the ring.

Then i primed and then painted with 'chrome paint'

with the masking carefully removed, the bezels were fitted back on.

they are not perfect but certainly pass the '10 foot test'.

Took bout 1 hour and cost nothing as i already had the paints

eventually i plan on getting a proper grille and bezels but for now>>i have the look without the expense. I can put the money saved towards signature lamps Smile
