Quick question 07 TD4

My Son is in the depths of Cornwall, phoned this morning and told me he has a solid amber engine light on. Cars not gone in to limp mode and is driving perfectly.

Looked in the Handbook PDF on here and there is no reference to it that I can find (it says petrol engine only)

He drove to Devon in it yesterday without issue, it came on after he left for St Ive's this morning.

Anyone got any ideas please.

He has B/D recovery if needed and the car has LR warranty until June 2016, but this is just a PITA as he has gone away to propose to his partner and the last thing we need is the car to spoil things.

Ian.

The malfunction light could be erroneous but it is safer to assume it is real. He really needs to read the stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) with an OBD scanner that most garages should have. Once you have a few clues from the DTCs you can then decide to clear the codes and run it again or leave them alone and get it inspected.

Note: My basic OBD scanner does not read special Land Rover DTCs even if Reduced Engine Performance (REP) has been displayed. If he does see an REP then a quick stop/start can clear it for a while.

Good luck.

Cheers for the reply, I have an OBDII reader that would read the generic code on the FL1 he had. but he's 270 miles away Neutral They have reached their destination now and the car is still running normally. with a bit of luck it may just be a drop of moisture in a plug connection or something like that and clear it's self.

Out of interest when a fault is generated and stored on this system will it reset after a few cycles if it's no longer active or will it need clearing ? to put the light out.

Thanks

Ian.

I might suggest he tries that on Sunday before they set off to come home, but as I said in the original post he has other more important matters on his mind at the moment.

I doubt he has any tools with him either...

Thanks anyway.

Ian

I think that depends on the nature of the detected error condition. AFAIK the MIL is the last resort eg more than 2 failed tests over three drive cycles. All DTCs are logged, even if they don't warn the driver. BTW, REP (limp mode) never set the MIL when I got the error.

I cannot answer the question of whether the MIL will disappear on its own but some other kind member will surely know.

Cheers,

When the Cam position sensor failed it didn't put the MIL on either.

We''ll find out one way or another anyway, thanks for the replies.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Just an update, car drove back OK, Put my scanner on it this morning and it's showing DTC PO299 Turbo under boost.

So an appointment with the main stealers me thinks Cool I cant see why it won't be covered under the approved used warranty.
