Reading the bumph about my ferry trip on Sunday they ask you to lock the car but turn off the alarm , how would/can I do that ? Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Press the lock button once which should lock the lr2 but not turn the alarm on

That's just turns off the interior sensors

What you need to do it press the hazArd light button and hold it down, whilst pressing the door lock button, whilst doing this open the car door and exit, lock with one key press  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You should press twice to fully lock, deadlocks and activates the internal sensors, one press for when you leave the mother in law in the car and the buttons method to totally turn it off, used when on car transporters such as AA/RAC types and ferris etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just lock the car normally, with the fob, as you usually do.

Many car alarms have shock sensors and on the ferry, because of the ship's vibration, the alarm can go off.
They don't want that so they tell you to only lock the car, without the alarm.
But there is no such thing as shock sensor on FL2 so any alarm arming will lock the car without the possibility to go off, except when you open a point of entry - door, hood, boot. And that will not happen.

Have had my Freely on several ferry trips in rough weather - locked and alarmed as normal. The Audis and BMWs parked beside me were alarming all night which must have been weary if one had a cabin nearby but not a squeak out of my Freely or other Landies parked on the same deck.

Regularly on ferry to Mull, alarms on VW and BMW often go off when side thrusters on at berthing and ramp lowering.
Never on any of my 4 FL2's or any other LR's. All FL2's (3) Gone

Echo druand's point..... Went to France again over summer, just one press and alarm disabled. Tough crossing but battery fine. French ferry mechanic loved the FL2. Not many French 4x4 manufacturers I guess....

Interesting comment on the French and 4x4. I know a couple of French farmers who just drive old Peugeots or Citroens around the farm and seem slightly bemused that anyone actually needs 4 wheel drive unless you live in the Alps or Pyrenees. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Fully agree but the country has significantly less imports than countries like the UK. That said, they run old cars into the ground far more than we do.

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I reckon it's about availability of cheap parts, far more rural Renault dealers or indies than over here. Every French village seems to have one with a few old renaults cluttering their workshops. Surprised at how little Peugeot there are by comparison.

Returning to Purple M boy's question of Freelander 2 : car ferry/alarm triggering-

I agree with Alex -there should not be a problem -just lock it as you would ordinarily then, usual drill = handbrake on and leave it in gear.

Been on conventional ferry. sea cat. and fast craft ferry many times on Irish Sea with Freelander 2 including some quite "lively" crossings in the winter- (Probably would not hear alarm anyway above sound of smashing crockery and groans of mal de mer sufferers)
