Awesome blog post mate. Very inspiring actually.

I need to gear up so I have a few questions Smile
So you carry two spares?
Whats the range of the CB radio? It looks a nice size
Would you stay well away from the dry dust with the standard factory tyres? I notice you have them in some posts.
Any other equipment you'd recommend? Those ramps look VERY handy.
Dual battery setup?

Hi Phillip, not only I carry two spares, but also I carry a Tyre Pliers Kit, I'm so freaking out to be stranded somewhere without the means to fix a wrecked tyre. The rocks around the Flinders are very sharp and the rocks in the Sturt Stony Desert are also sharp and numerous.

My UHF radio is a Uniden UH076SX-NB and can reach up to 15 km, it was sufficient for Simpson Desert, very happy with it. I also have a IsatPhone and buy the smallest possible one month credit lasting unused for 12 months.

I crossed the Simpson Desert and Sturt Stony Desert and Oodnadatta Track with my original standard tyres. I had only two flats and the first one I got on the side of the highway driving to Bourke, the second one was a sharp rock on the Oodnadatta Track, but I was driving too fast. I consider myself very lucky on this trip, nowadays I have huge AT tyres (Geolandar A/T – S 245/70/17 ) and they make big difference. For the new tyres I got a tyre pressure monitor (tyredog td-1000a), which is doing good job.

Apart from the "VERY handy ramps" (MaxTrax), I think a good powerful 12 v compressor is a must (I carry two, to have a back up) as well as an air jack, but haven't used it yet, as I have a long handled shovel, witch combined with a vigorous will to get out of a bog is another must.

I don't have a dual battery setup yet, but I am planning to get one (for now I carry a jump starter).

Good luck! Very Happy

They are still giving out Visas. Even to 50YOs.
Our growth and pensions depend on migrants. Aus can't sustain itself otherwise.

Leap of faith is all that's needed Smile
