Freelander 2 Door Handle Change

I haven't changed the handles myself, but the guide on here is useless now as the pictures have been removed, so I've found another guide and placed it here.

Here is a view of the new kit.

Drivers door + both rear doors are verily simple to fit start by unlocking your freely with the fob, remember to open one of the doors to save it keep relocking

Step 1

With a thin screw driver or a kitchen knife or a thin scraper You can see in this image I found it easier with a 1" Spatula.

Slide the Spatula in between the cap and rubber and gently prise the cap away from the car, you will most likely break 1 or both clips on the old ones as you remove it.

Step 2
Once the cap as been removed hold of the handle with both hands and jerk it to the rear of the vehicle - you will find it slides 10 to 15mm.

Step 3
Pull the handle as if you was opening the door, once the back is free slightly slide the handle towards the back of the car and handle will be disconnected and free.

Step 4
Slide the new handle in the same way you removed the old one with the front first.

Step 5
Slide the new handle towards the front of the car until it is in place - if you find a bit of resistance in pushing it back you will need to pull the door hook out with a piece of string or cotton (I did mine with cotton - you will see the hook when you do the handle change), just loop the cotton around the hook pulling it out has you slide the new handle in place. Once the handle is in place pull on the cotton to remove it - its very simple with the cotton/string if your handle doesn't locate first time.

Step 6
Replace the cap as shown in photo with the back sliding in first.

Now on to the passengers door with the lock;

Step 1b
Open your passengers door and you will see a small rubber grommet.

Step 2b
Once you have removed the rubber grommet - just off centre you will see a TORX screw.

Be sure not to remove the screw completely - you will lose it in the door!!! while unscrewing it and at the same time pull on the lock till the lock is free, there will still be loads of tread of the screw not to lose it.

Step 3b
Follow steps 4 and 5 above to replace the passenger side handle - I did need to use the cotton on this one to pull and locate the hook in to the handle.

Replace the lock.

Step 5b
I'm sure we all know how to remove and replace the lock cap, but if your not sure in how to do this, remove your key from your fob and slip it in to the slot underneath the cap to remove it. To replace it, slide the cap on from the back then clip in to place.

All this will be as clear as day if you decide to buy a set of new handles for your Freelander 2 and they was in front of you and see all the clips and hooks

Where are we getting the colour coded door handles from? Other LR models (RRS, RRV, D3?) or facelift FL2's?

2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Sumatra Black

Just done this to my i6. Drivers and both rears went in a treat. Left the Passenger front was left until last. Bloody thing will NOT go in . The rear location part is angled about 1mm further towards the back of the car and as such does not fit the location hole in the door. You can manipulate the handle slightly further forward and it will eventually go in but will not pull to open the door, or will pull but will stay out.
I've tried putting the old one back in and it just goes back in with absolutely no dramas. Same for the other 3 old handles. Looks like I've got one dodgy new handle, and it just happened to be the one I saved to put in last !

See pic. New handle on the right. Note the worn plastic cap on the new handle, this was off one of the old handles and was put on to see whether this was the problem. It was then that I noticed the real problem.

2012 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Firenze Red

I bought a set of the chrome handles on Ebay from Powerfuluk and the passenger front handle was the last one that I did. I could not get the key cover to fit no matter how hard I tried and it was starting to get damaged with my repeated attempts. The original cover fitted without an issue. I contacted Powerful about the issue and they sent me a replacement the very next day with a request to return the faulty part so they could check what the issue with it was. They included a prepaid label for the returned part and the replacement they sent fitted without any further problems. I suppose these things can happen sometimes with pattern parts make in China!
