Hi Dorset Freelander,
Used this offer recently for A service and mot. A lady meets you at the dealership and secretly films the booking in process. On collection she does the same and the video and findings are then passed on to land rover. There is then a short questionnaire to do with her afterwards. All in my service and mot cost£284 with the discount with no advisories Very Happy 7-10 days later you should receive your £100 cheque Very Happy .

Hope this helps
Matt

I know what you mean but she didn't turn on the camera until we were sat facing the service desk and switches it off as she stands up. I suppose they have to sort legalities out beforehand anyway. If it improves land rover customer services and some of the dealerships I've used then I'm all for it!

Isn't it illegal to film a person without their consent?

Not for me, I have a service pack plus if I have a problem I will tell them directly.

I'm a coach driver and we get mystery shoppers, we can usually spot them because they read the timetable and look at the destination display, what bus passenger reads that Laughing. They even monitor our speed with a highly inaccurate phone app.

My last one was a couple of years back, full marks on customer care and driving skill. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Don't know if it is illegal or not they have a direct contract with land rover so would imagine it has all been checked.

Plus how many tv programmes are there where secret filming is carried out?
£100 is a good saving for me right now, service and mot recently done, insurance, tax and new tyres all coming up within next couple of weeks Big Cry

the dealers will have been warned of the random filming and probably signed a consent form to make it all kosher At work

So the dealer then puts a video of me with some strange woman on YouTube booking the car in and threatens to tell my wife that we were booking into a hotel unless I buy another car ..... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

To my knowledge there is no inherent right to privacy under English common law - so, as far as I am aware, perfectly legal to film.

There may however be remedies available to someone who was filmed without their consent and the resultant footage published or broadcast.

If JLR are using the footage privately with no intent to publish or broadcast, they're probably OK.

What I'm not sure about is if the footage contains minors - I'll have a check.....

Doc might have a better idea?

Taking photos or videography on private land for the purposes of 'recording crime' is perfectly legal and given the prices dealers charge, that would be adequate defence, I imagine. Evil or Very Mad

It comes down to a reasonable expectation of privacy. Whilst the LandRover Dealership is obstensively private premises, it is open to the public and as such a reasonable person would not expect privacy in public areas. If, however, you went into an office, it would be reasonable to expect privacy. So, being recorded in a public place is not unreasonable. This is why you get the "calls may be monitored to training etc purposes" when you ring up a Call Centre - you have a reasonable expectation of privacy on a telephone call so they have to tell you that your call may not be private.

As another poster has said, Dealers will have signed up to "Mystery Shopper" as part of their Dealership Agreement. So it's perfectly OK and, as the old saying goes, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to be concerned about. Indeed, it's an opportunity to shine!
