how responsive should the engine be?

Recently I noticed that when blipping the throttle from idle my engine does not gather revs as rapidly as I would expect. I can floor the pedal momentarily without much change in revs Shocked I was surprised to find this but have never noticed a problem when driving, there is lots of pull & I have never noticed any real hesitation although response is a little sluggish at low revs & the engine seems to have to wind up a bit. Is this a turbo diesel thing perhaps? Maybe I am used to super responsive petrol engines that will instantly pick up 3 or 4 thousand rpm....
Would be interested in how others engines behave.

It's diesel, blipping the throttle is fruitless.

Pointless revving a diesel thats why its always best to change up a gear at the earliest point all its torque is low down nothing top end, the normal diesels arent designed to rev like a petrol, plus they normally have heavier flywheels and thus takes more momentum to get them spinning.

thanks both. It was the lack of reaction when tweaking the throttle that concerned me. But from what you are saying it is normal. As I say the car drives fine. Smile

Indeed ……. enjoy the fact that the car drives well in almost any circumstances and road conditions, and that much of it is at lower revs than would be the case with a petrol engine. Diesels do NOT lack power and are very flexible if you drive it like a diesel; I don't find my FL2 at all dull! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

The Si4 ticks along at about 1700 -1800 if it can and then up to low 2000s and takes off like a rocket when needed. The Ford eco boost engine is very nice together with the Aisin transmission. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
