United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Bali Blue
Hesitation at low revs in 2nd and 3rd gears.

Hello,
My 2011 HSE manual suffers from the well documented hesitation at low revs problem. it has been into Marshalls at Peterborough to investigate while under warranty,
but they admitted that as the fault did not show up when the car was hooked up to the magic lantern, they could not cure the problem.
This fault only happens at temp above 12 deg. so during winter months all is ok . Now the car is out of warranty Marshalls of Peterborough agreed to check the fault again as a goodwill gesture, again without success, so they sent the results to Landrover to get their opinion on what to do.
I have now been informed that they need to do more investigative testing to see if they can find the fault for which i will be charged £99 per hour for what they estimate a two hour session.I do not see why i should have to pay to correct a fault that was notified to Marshalls of Peterborough when the car was under warranty, for a fault that they could not fix.
This problem seems to now be at epidemic proportions from the posts on this forum, and still Landrover have not come up with a fix. My question is , should I have to pay for this investigative work and any subsequent parts etc.when the problem was looked at without a result while under warranty. Marshall of Peterborough insist that the work is chargeable now that the warranty has expired. Do any members know how i stand , or have been involved in a similar situation.
As Landrover and their dealers seem reluctant, or unable to resolve this problem that so many owners are experiencing perhaps it should be brought to the BBC Watchdogs programs attention ?

Send ryan@landrover a pm or post if can't do that yet due low number of posts. I am sure he will be able to assist you as he has helped others. I don't have any specific experience but I would think that you should not have to pay for this. Ryan is at customer relations shown on the home page.
Good luck.

I've noticed a very slight hesitation on mine over the last week (2013 MY, 23,000 miles). Very intermittent, but similar to this and other posts.

Have other members experienced this from new or as the car gets older? Gone:

In short "no".
Only characteristic I've observed is if your driving enthusiastically and have to come off the accelerator on to brake and back on to accelerator there can be a noticeable lag but nothing I wouldn't think is uncharacterised by the engine design. Particularly with a variable vane turbocharger.
Otherwise power/torque available in abundance. MY15

I've noticed a slight hesitation on my MY13 SD4, but my thought at present is that it's due to the auto gearbox deciding to change down as I accelerate. In which case it wouldn't be the same problem as you are having, but I'll keep an eye on it. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Wind your neck in.

Add up all the members, whose total on this forum represent less than 2% of Freelander ownership, from that 2% you will see that the problem is far from tne epidemic you describe.

dilemma

Hello CED
I too share the same dilemma but would be more than happy to pay for a fix that actually work
I do hope someone comes up with a solution or land rover recalls the car

Venting frustration is perfectly fine, ranting and raving and putting down other members won't be tolerated.

Of course, LR, would never openly admit to any problem, if there is one, yes many members are experiencing this hesitation, many many more are not.

There are members who have had work carried out and the hesitation has gone away, so it's not beyond being fixed, each case must be dealt with individually with your own dealer and of course with the aid of LRCS if necessary, the correct steps are documented in the thread in the LRCS section.

Top man, I hope you get to the bottom of your issues, I'm on my second FL2, the first was good until I had an issue with it, all resolved under warranty. Not a hesitation issue while moving, on coming yo a halt the revs would suddenly drop to 300-400 then recover. The saga went on for two months eventually resolved with a new turbo, the original had a tight spot on the shaft, it would always stop in exactly the same position when spun by hand, not conclusive but the fault disappeared.
I then changed as a little red number turned my head.

Good luck Thumbs Up
