I am selling my Mazda Bongo 4wd Diesel campervan, and looking for something a little larger, more rugged with 4wd and retaining a good degree of living / sleeping space. My current Bongo sleeps 4 ( it has an electric pop roof )

I have seen online a few LR conversions, and a Toyota Troopy.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these, or something similar.?

Try one of thease a freind of mine uses 1 for his works vechile runs on anything from "chipp oil " to desil watever the grade ....!! no trouble paking either he just leaves it wherever he wants .!!

you wouldn't go far wrong getting one of the old British Military DAF trucks, not great in the serious muddy stuff but more than capable across fields and tracks. Reasonable to drive and there are dismountable box body conversions for the rear.
They used to have on board air compressor as well, and had three seats across the cap with plenty of space behind them too.

Seems the bongo will be gone soon, its been listed only 24 hours and I have 28 watchers, and 680 views, 3 offers and loads of calls. 

We used to plywood line and use tarpaulin sheets on the GS (canvas) backed Bedford and DAF trucks to insulate and waterproof them. You could fit 2 bunkbeds down the sides at the front end with plenty of room in the middle, and then we used to put a plywood wall up half way along with a door in it to make a bedroom area at the front and an admin area at the rear which you could expand with the drop down tailgate. Pure luxury when in the field for several weeks at a stretch

If you bought a DAF for £5-7k you could make it pretty reasonable for another few hundred quid as above.

Or you could find one with a full length box body that may come with a mains input panel and circuit breakers already fitted.

Since this is a Land Rover forum I feel obliged to throw in the forward-control Land Rover!

Getting on a bit now, but there have been some nice bespoke camper/expedition conversions and it retains most of the off-road capability of a Land Rover.

Perhaps now a less practical option due to age and rarity, but for an enthusiast still one to dream about!

it would make a good chicken house - say 1 per 4-5 sq ft. so perhaps as many as 3 chickens

that might explain why chicken is so cheap. That and the fact that they inject the flesh with water (hopefully nothing else like they do in Brazin etc) to increase the mass/retail price. must make this the dearest water in the world. 

my mate has WW2 GMC engineers truck. All kitted out as a camper inside but looking original outside. not fast,economical or comfortable. but he goes to a lot of war weekends, dressing up in all the gear.

An old boy in the village has an ex-raf defender 110 ambulance V8, converted to a camper , still complete with rather loud siren, He used to bring it to the farm here for 'siren tests' ,as the villagers didnt like it. in the end neither did I so I banned him  At work
