For the last year my 2008 LR2 won't start periodically. When it first happened I bought a new battery, then a new starter, as recommended by Land Rover Dealership, even though I didn't think it was the starter, as it made zero sound. The episodes of not starting are becoming more frequent, I have to open the bonnet and reset ECU by touching pos to neg each time, then it starts normal for several times before doing it again. On dash it says steering lock, but the steering wheel is not locked. I see on forums where this is a common problem, but nobody has a firm solution. I was told by a local small business LR tech that there is a bypass for the steering module that will fix this????? Anyone have a clue about the real problem and best way to go about repair that is not too expensive? Thanks, John in Florida, USA

Experienced the same problem when I bought my 3.2 i6
Another forum member with the same model tod me it was an easy fix with a soft ware update
He had tried several fixes and eventually this was it
Took it into LR and asked for the update never had a problem since - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Not sure about the i6 but some TD4s had all kinds of problems, fitting an extra earth stap from battery - to a bolt on the starter made a marked difference.
Not saying it will solve you're problem but it won't do any harm. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

I had a problem with starting when the weather or engine was hot, a simply ECU software update fixed it, worth a try first as it only cost me £50 ($75) and not had a problem since.

Fitted an extra earth strap at same time just to make sure

Only a few weeks ago the starter motor gave up completely, just no reaction from the start button
Replaced with genuine Bosch part off ebay a third of dealer price and wow what a difference
