Air Con

Hi All

A while ago the Air con started making a louder noise than usual more so when the accelerator was down, but yet it was still working but now it is completely dead... no noise no conditioning at all

I believe it might of been a bearing issue because when i took it to a dealers to get the Rear Diff done the engineer said the ai con bearing might be failing.

Is this a fix or a total replacement as they quoted a staggering £650 for a new unit

Thanks

That's the question lol
My bearing was very noisy when ac was switched off
You will need a press to remove and fit new bearing
Bearing and press lot cheaper than a new pump low, if it's the bearing ?? 2008 xs

Have you had the AC gas checked?
I had a similar noise and was convinced that it would need a new AC compressor but it turned out to be very low on gas and the noise dissapeared once regssed and Ac back to normal.
Several others on the forum have had same problem.
Do you use a LR agent or an Indy?
From the "I thinks its the bearing" I suspect an LR agent - they are great at racking up the bills by replacing parts on a process of elimination instead of actually finding the fault. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Hi Road Toad

Thanks for the reply

TBH it was when I was getting the rear diff sorted at Hunters LR and the mechanics said the noisy AC was the bearing and so I just presumed it was that and now it just does not work at all.. No noise no AC so not sure the best policy to pursue

Cheers

Could still be gas required. My daughters car was the same, no air con at all, re-gassed, all back to normal. definitely worth a try before jumping in!

Hi All

UPDATE!!

Just to let you all know i had the Air Con re-gased, which according to the mechanic was at 210g and should have been 710g. So obviously what we can gain from this is if the aircon reaches that low level then it stops working altogether and the noise i was experiencing, which according to Hunters Land rover mechanics was a £630 replacement was a croc-of-crap (they never even mentioned a re-gas)and has now completely gone away.

£30 for total aircon fix...

Massive thanks to you all for your advise and guidance

Hi NPinks

They used a floor standing machine that attached via a long hose and went through loads of Cycles that lasted about 30min. The mechanic said if it found any leaks it wouldn't continue to the filling with gas stage.

Hope this helps
