United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Thanks for the reply Taztastic.
I have read through all of those posts, took some time. Most of them refer to post 2011 facelift models and autos. Mine is a 2009 manual. One or two did mention holes or splits in the intercooler hoses. I haven't managed to check them all out as yet as access to the clips on the intercooler itself is very restricted. I'll have to give that ago.
I forgot to mention in previous posts that the fault cannot be replicated at standstill and driving around town is not affected. It is most apparent whilst cruseing then trying to accelerate hard, between 2000 and 3000 rpm is the problem. Once past there its OK. Also if you take off from a standing start and drive like it's been stollen its fine as the revs rise very quickly. Question

Thanks also to DAC364 for the reply.
Where is the 'throttle position sensor' ?
It's worth a look thanks. Thumbs Up

All commits welcome. Thumbs Up

I have a 2007 manual that hesitates as you accelerate from 2000 rpm - mine is due to the clutch starting to slip.

Thanks for the reply Fletcher, but its not the clutch, that works fine.
I appreciate the help though as all suggestions are welcome Thumbs Up

Back to the problem.
Stripped out the hoses etc. from the air filter to the turbo compressor. Check for splits and leakage. All OK
Stripped out the hoses etc. from the compressor to the intercooler. Also OK.
Unable to get to the connection on the other side of the intercooler due to lack of space. I think the bumper will have to come off.
Disconnected the next connection and removed the components up to and including the throttle body. Also OK.

There is a sensor inside the throttle body but I don't know what it is.
Does anyone know Question
And if you do what's it called and what does it do Question
Could this be my problem Crying or Very sad

Quick update on this one.
Removed the front bumper assy to gain access to the intercooler. Removed the intercooler and all hoses couldn't find any faults.

As this thread has dried up I started another entitled 'throttle body sensor'
Anyone looking at this may wish to follow the saga there. Sad Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Hey there mate . . how's your coolant level looking?? I had something similar (perhaps) the other week. Turned out to be a leaky EGR cooler!?!? When you topped up the coolant and reved engine (landrover assist, not me) loads of steam out the back and it drove like a kangaroo!!! All sorted now thank god!! Although one thing you haven't mentioned was coolant level - thought it was maybe worth a mention 😁

Hi Mystyar66
That's an unusual one !
Coolant level on mine fine, no smoke or steam. Fault only apperant between 2000 and 3000rpm.

Just had an interesting reply from Alex on the other thread. He suggests it could be a faulty fuel return valve from the injectors.
Apparently this could throw up the same fault code p0299 turbo under boost.

I'm going to try and have a look at that tomorrow. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Turbo boost control position sensor.

Still having problems.
Does anyone know what the 'turbo boost control position sensor' looks like and where I might find it on a 2.2 diesel.
Just something else I have to check before I remove the turbo for inspection. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

"Just something else I have to check before I remove the turbo for inspection."

Check the arm from the control unit in case it is sticking.

Make sure you have the latest sw updates for your model and do a calibration with SDD

Thanks FL2Printzern
I am going to check the control arm today, you are more than likely correct. Sticking control arm and possibly sticking turbo vanes.
As for software updates, mine is a 2009 model, told by the dealer at last MOT that there are no more updates for this model.

I also have a SDD but I am also having trouble with that, will not run on my laptop. Rolling Eyes
I will post back any results from today.
Thanks. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

What kind of laptop might that be? A "normal" laptop with XP SP3 clean install and it "must" run...

Sorry for the late reply.
Spent most of the day under the car. Decided to check turbo. Disconnected exhaust from turbo and moved to one side as I could not separate the exhaust. Checked inside, looked quite sooty. Filled the inside of the turbo with oven cleaner foam (good for removing carbon). Disconnected actuator arm and worked it so the cleaner could do its job. After 30 minutes flushed it out with clean water followed by compressed air to dry it.
Checked inside again, much cleaner ( will try and upload some photos). Reconnected every thing and took it for a blast to thoroughly dry out the turbo.
Result….......the car doesn't cough and loose power any more at 2000-3000rpm, but I still have a strange induction noise. Sounds like the automatic transmission on a service bus. Sad

As for the laptop it is running XP, I'm waiting for a software fix from the supplier. Confused Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

How much force did you have to use when you moved the arm before cleaning it? I did a little check here and there was absolutely no resistance at all. When I loosen the arm in the controller module end it is sliding down by its own weight.
