New Smell .... (not warm Sheep Droppins either .)

Arrived home last night after short trip 6 miles from father-in laws place to be greeted with very strong smell of hot engine oil/transmission type fluid no apparent leaks had a good look unreneath all dry and clean and all levals as per norm ...

Could it be the start of the dreaded HALDEX problem ??? no messages on dash or warning lights at all

any ideas please ...??? Wales
Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.
(And we have the water to wash it off, and more on the way..! )

I occasionally get this, others have assumed it to be the DPF during regeneration which gets significantly hotter than normal, although a short six mile journey may not be enough to trigger that process.
I would doubt its anything haldex related

never had the problem on my FL2 but on my 58 plate Antara prior to that the DPF auto cleaned every few hundred miles.
I didn't usually notice it as I was mostly driving up and down the M1/M40 at higher revs but on the occasions where it self cleaned around town etc then there was a smell like rotton eggs/stink bombs which was normal for a DPF clean.

If you have been doing mainly short low speed journeys for a while then it may be just the DPF needing a blast out.

If the car is only really used for short journeys the DPF doesnt get hot enough to auto reclean so the engine management noting this will pump extra fuel in to increase the temperature so it does it that way, maybe you smelt it because of the extra fuel being used at the time for this??
