United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

Ignore last message got the grille out. Spent ages trying to get out the wiring and gubbins of a Parrot unit installed by a previous owner for which I have no use . One other point is I have come across a small blue box about 2 inches square made by a company called Armour Automotive. It has a multi pin plug/socket at either end. What does it do? Thanks

the parrot control box is normally blue, about 6'' x 2'' x 1''

should have several connections ports around it, mine was fitted behind the left hand, centre dash vent.

it may well be that.

No sat signal with Tomtom

Sorry to interrupt this thread, but how are you folks managing to get a signal?
I have a MY 13 HSE with fitted satnav which I am not happy with.
I used a TomTom Go 25 in my previous car (Touran) and it was so much better than the Freelancer unit.
However it will not pick up the signal when stuck on the dash or windscreen.
I guess the problem is due to the heating elements in the screen.
Do your cars not have this problem? MY13 SD HSE LUX Ipanema Sand

You may be right about the heating element. I had a tomtom in the dash recess of my last car (07 GS) and had no problem. I believe you can source a separate aerial for the tomtom - may even be able to use the LR one. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

The parrot box is a lot bigger than the box I found. It def looks audio related as connected to the 2 connectors going to the radio. As all is working OK will leave well alone. Am amazed at how good a fit the Garmin unit is in the cubby hole space.
Like it was a made to measure unit even the traffic units fits nicely out of the way

Helllo everyone,

I am interested to buy and fit a garmin drivesmart 70. I am little bit concerned about the audio and the quality of the signal. Has anyone fitted this exact device and does anyone have problems with the signal on their in-dash garmin navigations?? Also is there a setting inside those devices to switch off when not charged by external power??

Thank you

Cannot comment on your unit as do not know exact dimensions but as it is a 7in unit may fit fine. All I know is the
Nüvi 2797 LMT I fitted looks as if it was made to be there. Auidio is good loud enough to hear commands and the signal is fine. I fitted a small on off switch on the unit so is only on when I need it on.

Like Bogart I have no knowledge of the Drivesmart 70. The DEZL 760 is a perfect fit, & looks totally original, audio quality is excellent & there are no issues with signal strength. You would need to fit an external switch on the power lead if you need to be able to switch off independently of external power. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Thank you for your replies. Can you be a little bit more specific on how you installed an external button on the device?? Because i didn't understood correctly is it connected on the power cord and when you want you switch it off by cutting it's power? Is it not harming the device?

I do not have a separate power switch, I am happy for the GPS to power up whenever I switch the ignition on.

Yes, if you want to install a switch, you will have to fit it directly into the power supply lead.

The idea of a switch is to stop the GPS powering up when you turn the ignition on, not to turn it off (my understanding).

It powers down automatically when the ignition is turned off. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Here is a photo of my setup. You can see the on/off switch to the top right this is fastened to the speaker grille and is a direct feed so unit can be on or off independent of the ignition switch. I attached the traffic warning lead to the rear of the speaker grill and it performs fine in this position not needing to be as Garmin suggest attached to the windscreen.
