Rear wheel bearings URGENT HELP required

Ive got a 700 mile round trip to do on friday and Ive got a rumble from the rear of the car and suspect the rear near side bearing is shot. The cars only got 51,000 miles on it (2008 deisel).

I had it up on the jacks on Sunday and With the wheel, disc and caliper off the hub feels notchy when turned by hand.

Ive checked on Eurocarparts and they list 3 different brands with prices from £45 to £115! They all look the same ( bearing , circlip and hub nut.

Does anyone know How the bearings to change ?
Do you need a hydraulic press to get the bearings out and in?

Think you may need a press but not certain,
I had mine done at my local Indy and seem to recall him mentioning a press but it was last year and my memory is not what it was. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

In my experience of FL2s and other cars with wheel bearing problems they can go on for a couple of thousand miles, they just get noisier. I expect that you have checked for the noise getting worse as you go around a corner and load up the outside ? Having said that the last one that we had go was within a few days of having the rear diff done so that the noise was probably being masked by the diff noise for some time. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Most bearings in general come in around 3 or 4 different grades/quality.
Top grade best and the most silent running, lowest grade rough and ready just about does the job in hand.
Thats why theres different prices for the same size, normally.

i had to change mine last year, got the part for £15 of the bay.
The whole hub has to come off and then be pressed out. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

Bearings......dont thinks so

Well i had the near side hub off today and the bearings fine. Bit of rust between the drive shaft and where it enters the hub. All seemed fine, put it back together and went for a run.
Noise still there.........!
At a loss now to what the noise is

either diff bearing or wrangler tyres.

most likely diff but getting rid of the wranglers 'cured' my wheel bearing and a few others have had same At work

Do a search on the forum on rear diff noise, it's a common problem with this vehicle. I have had this plus a transfer box plus wheel bearings at around 50k but some have had it at 20k. Read the following for a start.

Did you replace the bearing or just put it all back together? Wheelbearing is a lower pitched rumble whereas diff is higher pitched whine. Your OP said rumble so unless you replaced the bearing, that is what my money is on, had two go on mine - on the same wheel! Don't ask!

The noise if a rumble rather than a whine. And it seems to get slightly quieter when its warmed up.
Just a had a look under the car and there a small amount of oil on the right hand side drive shaft where it leaves the diff.
I put the hub back together and have went to work in the car today without problems other than the noise.
Any help would be appreciated.

Find a nice long left hand bend, quite a tight one, drive along with the whine present, enter the corner and if the noise disappears it's probably the bearing and/or stub, if the whine persists through the bend then suspect the duff pinion bearing.
There are other areas to consider, ie transfer box that can manifest a problem as a noise elsewhere, not easy to find but a few basic checks can eliminate some.
Never had wranglers myself so can't comment on those.
