Please can anyone help me? My laptop has been invaded by a rampant problem calling itself "Ads by Nitrodeal". Whenever I look at Facebook or any of the other sites I access via Google Chrome on my Toshiba this thing pushes adverts, spurious phishing warnings and all sorts of rubbish onto the screen. It's making laptop life impossible. I've seen a couple of sites supposedly telling you how to remove it but the problem is it doesn't show up in my list of programs so I can't just uninstall it. Anyone else had this and cured it? Cheers for help. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Have you got Spybot search and destroy? Free download and works alongside normal anti virus software. I had it in my PC days and it picked things up that the anti virus software missed LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It's adware/spyware and not a virus so download the best in the business, Malwarebytes free and let it scan.

To be fair, Macs aren't immune (I have a MacBook Pro), it's just that the vast majority of the spyware and viruses are written to attack windows based systems. I have Sophos software on my Mac which received good reviews. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I HAD Sophos on my 2008 MB Unibody, and when the pin-wheel situation was getting worse and worse, it transpired that there was coding in the kernel that was being damaged by the Sophos product and slowing the entire Yosemite OS down. Removed Sophos 5 weeks ago, and machine works like it did when it was new 7 years ago! Local indy Mac specialist that assessed MB said that all these "products" that I had, i.e. CleanMyMac/MacScanner/Sophos et al are both unnecessary and bad for the health of the machine overall. I took his advice (somewhat cautiously) and have seen a massive improvement in performance, with no virus' to date (touch wood) Foraging near Gaydon.... 覧覧覧覧覧覧覧 MY13 HSE Lux SD4, Baltic Blue - current, 30,000> miles without fault MY12 HSE 2.2 SD4, Sumatra Black - gone after 10 months/43,000 fault-free miles |

To be honest, since getting an SSD fitted, its many times faster on all fronts than it ever was new. It can handle many programs without faltering. Best upgrade I ever made. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I haven't seen one of those before but it certainly seems like good value. I purchased a 2TB Seagate HDD for the purpose of Time Machine backups and then purchased the SSD to replace the internal HDD on the Mac.
