Headlight bulb holder broken

Whilst changing the bulb on my 59 plate Freelander 2 the brittle plastic retainer which holds the bulb into the headlamp assembly has broken so won't hold the bulb in the right place.

I've spoken to a couple of specialists and dealers who tell me its a new head lamp unit - however I refuse to be beaten (and am too stingy to pay out for a new Headlamp unit for the sake of a plastic clip).

Apart from a bit of silicon sealant to hold the bulb into the unit - does anyone have any better ideas? Either a supplier of the clip, a part number or an alternative cheap idea to overcome this problem

many thanks in advance....

Ask Dan at Duckworths (Forum sponsor) I'm pretty sure it's sold separately and you don't need a new headlight unit.

Mine looked a bit like that after I stuck some plastic masks on when travelling in mainland Europe. It looks as though it has had some sort of solvent on it - either a plastic cover stuck on and then removed, or maybe cleaned with the wrong fluid? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

It's very common caused by chemicals and or strong sunlight and ageing, you can get kits that claim to make them good again but I've never used one,if the seller says they weren't there when he posted them I simply don't believe that.

If you are stuck with them - try polishing the marks out - use Brasso or similar with a clean cloth and try a small area first to see if it is working. Do a small area at a time - it is a tiem consuming but worthwhile exercise but no use if the marks are deep cracks.

Looks like the plastic is degrading due to age and UV light, they basically need renewing, the cracks only keep coming back whatever you do.
They must have been like that before they were packed off to you, they shouldnt really be selling them like that, nothing to do with the post office in this case.
