Dan A few years ago I purchased a secondhand set 17 inch freelander 2 wheels fitted with pirelli scorpian atr tyres that were about 50% .I thought that I would use them around town and wear them out so I could fit new tyres for a long trip that I had planned quite a few months later. Quite a few months later the scorpians were still about 50% so I set off from Darwin to the Eyre peninsula a trip of 3000ks traveled around the Eyre then across to Yorke peninsula traceled around Yorke with off road work on peninsulas then on to the Flinders ranges and home via the oodnaddta track which is about 600k of dirt road with surfaces varying from compacted hard dirt ,loose stones bull dust and sand. Once I got home the tyres lasted several more months before I replaced them with yokahama ats that had a slightly more agressive pattern ,they are just as good off road but no better .I think I should have stuck with the scorpians as they are quieter on the bitumen Doug |
