When I got my Freelander it had different tyres front to rear (Avon front, Cooper rear) which did not bother me too much as they looked fairly new so left them on. Recently one of the rears got a cut in the tread about 75mm long so I decided it was time to fit 4 the same. I finally decided on Pirelli Scorpion Verde (235/60/18 ) I've done about 600 mls now on them and everything seems OK but the main thing I have noticed is on a trip to Manchester at the weekend I averaged 4 mpg more than with the other tyre combined (brim to brim method). I do this trip on a regular basis only got 36mpg usually so to get 40.1 on this trip was a real surprise and I can only put it down to the tyre change. |

If you look on any tyre sales site, by law it has to give you a 'score' against the tyre economy, wet grip and a dB rating.

Mmm and if you look they are very crafty not to make a tyre that scores high on all points, as no one would buy any of the others if they did.

A car that runs on rainwater? You'll be telling us that they didn't land on the moon, 9-11 was orchestrated by the American government and that Elvis is alive and kicking next. I don't think it's so much that they can make a tyre that lasts the life of the car but won't, but I would imagine tyres that have good grip in the wet may not be terribly fuel efficient and those that are fuel efficient may not have the best grip. You just have to make that choice when you buy a tyre - whether you want high mileage, good wet grip, good off-road grip, fuel efficiency, good grip in the snow, quiet running etc. etc. No tyre could possibly be good at all those things. |

I've got Scorpion Verdes fitted and am very pleased with them. Haven't been off-road with them except a couple of wet grass fields where they were fine. On road they're pretty quiet, have good grip in the dry and very good in the wet. Hole that helps. Dave 2011 SD4 HSE Auto (Previously 2007 TD4 XS Manual) |

Have you seen the price of bottled water? and that is without fuel duty. Diesel is probably cheaper. (milk is too but that's another gripe) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

Rolling reatistance is at it's lowest when new and increases as the tread wears.

If rolling resistance is at its lowest when the tyre is new, shouldn't the OP be getting BETTER fuel economy compared to his old tyres, not less? |

If you use hydro-electricity to produce your hydrogen then yes, you can run on rainwater.
