Tuning box

Just fitted a tuning box to my FL2 this morning and did 350 miles today.
Mostly motorway miles, 70-80mph and an indicated 41mpg.
There is much better acceleration and better pull in the higher gears.

One question; why a tuning box, not a remap? Question Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Tuning boxes interrupt input signal to ECU, then tell it lies. All FL2's (3) Gone

FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Exactly, there's nothing that tuning box can provide that a remap can't, yet the remap is much refer/reliable/efficient and can offer a much better drive. I gues the answer is cost, but then you get what you pay for... Whistle Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Tuning box's are not bespoke but are mostly plug and play and easily removed.
A remap is not as simple, but as mentioned can be superior if done properly.

Joe Fix it until it's broke !

A tuning box only puts more fuel into the engine, whether it can be burnt or not. Too much fuel, and the EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temps) start rising.
When these start rising, Pistons start getting hot. If/when they get too hot, they start to melt, then it's bye bye engine...

With interfaces around from the likes of BAS and Alive, a remap can easily be removed too. Thumbs Up Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Many remap agents will offer a free remap if lost during service upgrade at dealers.
traded in my remapped 2010 TD Auto for new SD, talking to dealers a few months later
" the man who bought your 10 plate has been kicking up --- with service dept because its down almost 10mpg since they serviced it. Adamant they have done something to it."
