You should manage 40k on Conti's before you notice an audible difference...I have replaced mine like for like, as my driving like yours is mainly M/way.

Around 27-28 on my contis, they were off over the winter so not sure on mileage, they have been swapped front to rear and have 3-4 mm on them but getting noisy, certainly won't be getting them replaced with the same, although grip is excellent, even in the wet although with the dismishimg tread aqua planing is being felt.

I'm sure my handbook says don't rotate tyres. |

That's bizarre! On a LR Dealer Service, they advise that the wheels are rotated in pairs! Now what could that mean, if not the former? Foraging near Gaydon....

On FL1s the advice was to swap the rears over at every service to reduce castellation of the tread blocks and subsequent noise. That was due to the viscous coupling but I have noticed a similar effect on FL2 wear so could be worth doing anyway. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Always rotated wheels on my FL1 ATS said it was normal to do it on FL2, however I have noticed an unusual ride since they were rotated and did wonder if it was a result of "tyre" positions.

It's not advisable to rotate tyres on an AWD drivetrain. Certain brands/tread designs are more prone to developing noise and handling issues due to wear patterns. MY15

Ive just upgraded my wheels from 17 to 18 inch and i need a new set of rubber. My usage really is 90% on road and 10% on Farm tracks and Im stuck between the Conti Cross Contacts and Pirelli Scorpion Verdes can anyone give me an idea as to the the pros and cons and the sort of mileage they're getting on them. Id got some new Michelin latitude cross on the 17s and they are quite noisy. As I said I really want a good flexible all season road biased tyre. Thanks Mark |

![]() Who gave you this advice ![]() New tyres on a Freelander 1 MUST always be fitted to the rear axel it clearly states this in the handbook! NEVER place new tyres on the front of a FL1 unless you fit new ones to the rear at the same time. The new tyres will have a larger rolling diameter causing the front of your prop to turn faster in relation to the rear. This locks up your VCU and in turn will cook the diff.
