Fender Vent Modification

I love the Fender Vent design feature but always though it could be enhanced which is why I painted the mesh part gloss black from the day I took delivery. I was happy with this until recently when I finally got the grill spars painted Santorini Black and now feel there wasn't enough cohesion between the grill and the fender vents. I wanted to avoid the full black
fender vent option as it really didn't fit with what my vehicle is all about, colour, set up etc!
I had two options, one was to fully black out the centre spar which houses the repeater or add a blackened out centre which runs behind the repeater and forward creating what looks like 2 small fins. I went for the second option. On this occasion I opted for automotive film as masking this area is tricky. I like this solution as I really don't want to loose too much of the silver or design of the vent, rather "finesse" the appearance. I think that when LR designed the centre spar of this vent
that "function over form" was observed here due to regulations around repeater size.
I've also ordered 2 Diadem globes to match the OE front repeaters as I can now see an orange tinge to the smoked repeater as it's sitting on a black background.
Be interested to hear what your opinions on this are, it might not be to everyone's liking and is only meant to be subtle.
I have attached a pic of the whole centre spar blackened if anyone would like to share their opinions, which I'm sure you all will. Laughing Thumbs Up

This is a few mockup pics of centre spar all black.

Yes looks good, but still think you need some silver in the centre spar.
On your original variant you could also add a bit of black to the rear of the side repeaters.

I had already done a similar thing to my all black vents, but by adding some orange.

Laughing Yes! I did try that but it looked a bit funny from a front/side view.
Love the orange Thumbs Up looks great!!! Not gonna work with mine though!! Rolling with laughter
So do you mean have the black similar to your orange so that there is silver between the repeater and the black?
Is it my imagination or is your bumper a different colour to the rest of the car? Shocked MY15

As you mention it, it does look like a different colour, but no, it is the same.
Never noticed it before on that pic, must just be the light. Thumbs Up

You could always have the vents in gloss black, but keep the central spar in silver, then add a matching green inlay. Wink FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Yeah, still think there may be too much black!

The method to my madness is that on the MY15 grill with the grill spars black the silver outline really stand out now and matches the signature led lights so I'm looking for the same affect with the fender grills in as such the silver outline is accentuated.

What about this RONP ???

I also took an idea from you Thumbs Up and was thinking of some red and blue or green and silver strips at the
beginning of the black. I like the blue and red idea but it's starting to look like a BMW "M" badge which I don't like the idea of.

I think you can see from this pic above why I didn't continue the black.

Oh and thanks for your "constructive" critique it's nice to be able to bounce ideas of someone, thxs mate!! Thumbs Up

Let me know what you think! I think I'm leaning towards the LR Badge, it's conservative, it's not saying something it's not ie SVR etc. Anybody else like this idea?????? Very Happy MY15

Badge doesn't look too bad, but how is it from a distance?
Does it really need it or does it make it look tacky?
Reckon a full length black inlay is best of all (with or without badge)

Def no blue/red unless you use it throughout your FL2 - but if you do, blue/red are not the colours to do it with.
Btw, I've got my orange/black/silver design on the lower rear bodyline, tailgate, dash strip and incorporated into my 3 Freel2 stickers. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Thoughts from someone who is struggling to decide whether his side strips should be fitted as supplied or painted to match...

The badge is not a good look. Almost certainly had LR designed it in, there would be a raised oval in the vent for it to sit on. Even then it wouldn't work well.

Two badges on each side of the car is probably OTT too.

Whilst I don't mind the LR badge I think LR have already been over generous with their badges so unlikely to proceed with this look.
I'm now probably opting for something more like RONP suggested earlier but was not sure how to achieve this and is more finessing the appearance.

So I've decided/thinking of cutting into the black film two equal diagonal, approximately 6 to 8mm, reliefs in the black to expose the silver from underneath. Similar to pic below but obviously without blue and white pieces not being there (illustration only). Like a checkered start to the black.

I think this is subtle and just creates a bit more interest without adding any new elements. Like the badge, you really won't see it unless your close up and from a distance will still look like two fins rather than a chunky centre spar.

What do you think? MY15

Try a thin sliver of black carbon fibre on the centre spar I think that would give you the checkered appearance without too much messing about No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS
