Hi RogB

I lost a shed load of money on the van and RRS but I've managed to get £1600 off a 2.0 Td4 DS HSE Auto with delivery first week of September which is when dealers are getting the demonstrators Cool

Looking forward to £130 pa road tax and up to 53 mpg combined Mr. Green

Decided not to buy another FL2 after sitting in and driving the DS - I would of regretted it everytime I saw the DS so my lads sharing is Punto with me until September Laughing Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

RRS to a punto - bit of a difference lol

Is the DS coming with the new ingenum engine ? supposed to be an excellent motor and has been in the Jaguar range for almost a year now so major teething problems should be sorted by the time you get yours. Thumbs Up

Don't blame you, why have what is basically a 10 year old design engine when you can wait a couple of months to get a more modern future proof engine.

I test drove a Manual DS 2.2 HSE at a dealer event and it was a nice car to drive, pretty well put together except for a few squeaks/rattles from the boot area. You will just have to get used to sitting a lot lower down than your RRS but at least driving round in a Punto for a couple of weeks will prepare you Rolling with laughter

3 months in a Punto Thud

My impression of the DS was bit more road/exhaust noise from boot than I expected, ride a bit lumpy at slow speeds, 2.2 noisy pulling away but quiet when cruising, inside like a Tardis - looks small outside but huge when you get in (leg room in back is limo standard). Boot looks good for what we need now and I thought interior is nicely finished despite others knocking it Confused

After the test drive I sat in a RRS2 and thought - nice - but then I looked at both and thought would I pay £30k more for the RRS2 before everything else like fuel, servicing, road tax........ and the answer was NO WAY Laughing

Even getting back in my 2013 RRS Black I'm still sold on the DS - I think JLR have done a great job and the brand is trying hard to shake off the old image. That's why sales are rocketing Thumbs Up

I had an ewok last year for a week and hated it so the DS must be good Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Wow loving that outfit! Running a Td5 Disco 2 with a twin axle Swift Challenger Sport 636. Serious desire for a Tdv8 RRS!

Its still a brilliant tow car, Ive had it 8 1/2 years and 101000 miles now, on 134000 total, heading to south west France next month, really love this Disco but do hanker after something more powerful / modern. Did you have the 2.7 v6 or the 3.6 v8?
Any opinions / recommendations?
Cheers
Gav

The D2 for me was one of the best Land Rover ever produced, I loved mine but unfortunately for me it was also the worst towing vehicle I've ever had if it wasn't for that reason I would still have mine today.

Never heard a D2 described as a poor towing vehicle, mine is superb. What was the problem?

Always fighting to keep it in a straight line,it was very unstable on the motorway anything and everything would cause it to wobble about, It got to a point where I wouldn't tow on the motorway.we changed everything on it with no joy, different caravans, tyres, wheels, loading the van differently nothing worked then on one trip we had a very bad experience when I nearly lost it so it had to go.If you Google D2 poor towing you will be surprised by some of the stories on there.

Mine was a remapped manual, but was slow off the mark, as you had to go to second more or less as soon as you were moving, so pulling out at a junction, you was having to change gear half way across, long legged gear changes, would be doing 60 but had to wait till you dropped down to 40 before you could drop a cog, it was a plodder, wouldn't want to go back to one for towing.
Was shocked at the difference between a D2 and a FL2 for towing, chalk and cheese. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I never towed caravan with my D2's but did drive the one above and below to tuscany - took 3 days and was a pleasure Bow down

I've towed 2 elddis twin axles with RRS MY10 3.0 TDV6 and MY13 3.0 SDV6 and they were neither as stable as my 97 Landcruiser towing a Fleetwood twin axle Sad

My brother had the 2.7 rrs and I thought it was underpowered. I've never driven a 3.6 but the forum is full of posts regarding blown engines and problems sourcing replacements due to low quantities so I would avoid them. If you can afford the SDV6 that's the one to get Gav imho Thumbs Up

I swapped the D2 for an x-type jag and after trip to south of France and only 6 months old traded it in for a FL2 before it crippled me - it was awful. The FL2 was superb and I bought another afterwards. I only moved to rrs to tow the twin axles but after selling the van I'm going for a ds now Cool Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
