Do I need a pair of towing mirrors for a FL2 as they seem so much bigger than any standard car mirror and protrude out a lot further?

I have towing mirrors but only look in to my car mirrors
I was thinking off not fitting them, just not sure that's legal 2008 xs

If your caravan is wider than your car and most caravans are then you need towing mirrors it's the law. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Though the mirrors are large and the width to the extremities is wider than a D4 you still cannot see the regulated area behind the van, unless you have a narrow van like an Eriba or early Van Royce. Buggar me I hate laws.

I understand your frustration, B. However, the laws are there for yours and other's safety. When towing a standard width caravan without having extended mirrors fitted you have a massive blind spot, especially on the near side. Definitely not good when you are towing on the Continent.

As I understand it if you can see right down the side off your van inc rear corners it's ok

There is a legal requirement for you to have mirrors that allow you to see clearly an area that is 4 metres wide from the side of your caravan at a distance 20 metres behind the driver. A caravan is significantly wider than a car even a large 4x4 and you simply can't comply with the law unless you fit towing mirrors.
