I'd just like to thank Ajuniper for the second time for the instructions posted.
I first used the instructions to clean out the rear wiper motor when it stopped and just last night used them again to replace the whole assembly. Without them I would probably never have attempted it and been humped at the dealership.

I am looking to perform this replacement as my tailgate switch is playing up. The instructions look really helpful thank you, but I have a question for those that have fitted the newer switch (LR042648) to an older FL2.

I understand the new switch replaces all previous and is a better design. It also seems to be more expensive from LR but that's OK if it gets the problem fixed. My FL2 is a 2007 GS and from the comments I have read on here it seems the new part includes the number plate wiring but the old does not.

When fitting the new switch to an old car - what is the process please? Are all the bits used from the new switch or are some left disconnected/unused?

Am I better off buying an older model from the auction site?

followed your superb instructions to the letter and fixed within 20 minutes. saved me a small fortune quoted by landrover garage, can't thank you enough. I'll be ordering a new microswitch just in case thanks for your help.

landys - did you use a new switch or refurb the existing please? If a new switch was fitted did you need to leave any parts disconnected or swap out any parts because of the components/connections in your 2007 FL2 please?

Hi rhysw. No not replaced the switch as yet but I will go for the replacement microswitch and cut the back of the plastic moulding out and glue another in when required. I have seen the link on here for one of these somewhere but you can get complete switch on ebay for £28 and it looks identical I refurbed mine as it was not too far corroded. Not sure if you've taken it out yet but it's a real simple fix. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - the fault on mine is intermittent and so it may be worth a strip down and clean as you suggest.

My name is Alkaja I have been a member for a few months and i have been an avid reader of all useful information/Tips/Guides on the forum.Now armed with the knowledge i have gained from you guys i set about doing the tail gate handle and replacing the battery on my 07 XS Freelander 2 td4.Now i have to say everything i read about these handles was spot on.Mine was indeed full of water (see pic).i was having trouble with the tailgate opening everytime i opened the door.Now after a steady hours graft and only £25 lighter everything is as it should be.Battery was a doddle to do also.Thanks again to everyone.

Have just removed the boot "handle" and the switch etc was all dry as a bone with sealant around the rubber cover. The switch itself clicks both on press and release but it does not operate the boot lock.
BUT
When I plug the release handle back in (black/red plug) the boot release clicks just the same as when I press the boot release on the key fob, but it still wont open with the handle.

Please can anyone advise me what to try?

The one on my partners td4 stopped working, the remote release on the key works ok, I took the switch out and it was spotless inside, no water or corrosion, it looks different to the one in the pictures as well, mine has a tiny microswitch inside (it was stuck) no springs just a metal sprung strip.

Anyone got any thoughts, could it be a broken wire?

No, the tailgate opens with the key fob without any problem.

Strange. AFAIK, the key fob switch merely replicates the boot switch. I expect someone will come along shortly and prove me wrong!

Hi all,

New to forum (and land rovers) and this is my first post

I have FL2 2007 and have an issue opening the doors with the key fob....the tail gate always releases when I unlock the car. When I start the engine, the system check tells me that the tail gate is open. When I check the tailgate, it is released but not unlocked. I need to stop the engine and use the tailgate button on the key fob to fully release and allow manual opening. I then need to open and close the tailgate manually in order to fully close it

Sometimes I just drive it with the system warning as I am fed up having to do this routine each time I use the car

Any quick and easy fixes with this issue or do I need take it to the dealer for reprogramming

Water in the tailgate release switch - very common problem. If you do a search there's plenty of information here, including a step-by-step guide to replacing the switch. New switches are around £30.
