rear view mirror

Censored eastern European car washers have knocked my rear view mirror off and now it won't go back on. Nothing appears to be broken and I can see that the lugs need to be lined up but it ain't happening! : bang :

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Impressed you ask the car washer their nationality.

According to manual it is this...
Disconnect the electrical connector.
Rotate the mirror stem at its base to release
from the windshield.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Ydachi!
Joe Fix it until it's broke !

so after much swearing and cursing its back on, although the plastic casing isn't clipped together fully so may need to come off again.

Its a right Censored to put back on. Had to remove the plastic casing, disconnect the rain sensor cable to move it out the way. Then with a bit of brute force twisting and pushing it went back on, fiddle blindly to get the connector back on, then put the outer casing back round, except it wont quite clip together fully.
At least I wont have the mirror swinging by the cables in front of my eyes on the way home from work now Thud

it goes back on at 45 degrees'ish then twist to engage the clip on the bolt on the screen turning it vertical
I hope that makes sense

Yanked my mirror off trying to fit a camera mirror.
Mirror on the Cam Mirror was crap but taking it off...ooops.
Took me 2 hours of fiddling then changed to the passenger side and it was much easier,15 minutes, 45 degree left, press to fit then swivel to centre keeping it pressed in all the time. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

After knocking the mirror off while cleaning the screen I can confirm refitting is a right PITA I managed it by the 45% method above and didn't disconnect the wiring, the plastic shroud however takes PITA to a whole new level.

So does that mean if you are one of the old school that believes cleaning the car is a job for the wife you have to marry an East European woman?

The wife has cleaned her current car twice in the two years since she had it. Her previous car once, I even took a picture as nobody would believe she did it. She does however take her car to the Polish dudes just up the road and they do a really good job on her car, I just need to spend a bit of time and sort out the black plastic which seems to be fitted to all modern cars and discolours quickly to a horrible grey colour.

In fairness to the Mrs, her last car spent so long on a major geotechnical work site that washing it was pointless, it'd be filthy the next day due to the dust and or mud. Though I think she did bribe one of the contractors to clean it by bringing in cakes.
