There is only one fuse for brake lights so it would be both sides on the one fuse.

Thanks for the reply Cambo, I might try switching the bulbs from the other side, maybe they are blown (but look intact)

Not got an electrical diagram to hand but wont both lights have a shared earth |

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to electrics, what would the implications be of having a common earth? |

if that one earth is iffy you would loose both lamps, do you have access to a multi meter? |

Having taken the lights off the car, instead of changing bulbs just unplug the lights from the car and plug them back in on the opposite side.
