United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

I think that its a well known fact that kids who grow up on farms rarely have allergies or minor ailments. My three grew up pretty robustly after crawling around farm kitchen floors and playing around farmyards. And don't mention driving tractors around fields whilst adults load bales on the trailer as soon as they were heavy enough to press the clutch and brake pedals. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

When I was a teenager back in the 1960s I had a Saturday job in a Butcher's Shop. It wasn't like today where cooked and raw meats are separate and you have to wash your hands every 2 minutes etc. We had raw chickens on the block next to cooked ham, sausage and raw steak etc. Chickens hanging up next to sides of beef plus bones for the dog etc. Everything wrapped up in newspaper. As far as I was aware none of our customers (or us) ever went down with food poisoning. So what has changed? Have the bugs got stronger? Have we lost our immune systems? Or is this another aspect of the HSE culture?

I think it's partly preventative for the less frequent but more harmful outbreaks that happen. By instilling good separation habits it can help curtail the damage when new threats hit the food chain. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Even if that correlation has been found, we couldn't conclude it's because of greater exposure to bugs. There are lots of different environmental and social factors that could contribute. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Meanwhile, back on the original subject of the thread, it appears some of the four (two guys 27 & 18, 2 girls 19 & 17) in the front row of the carriage have suffered "life changing injuries", presumably leg amputations. Not something that can be put right easily. Crying or Very sad 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Dunk,
My thoughts exactly. I dread to think what they are going through. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

At a friend's party a few years ago most of us went down with a bug from the unpasteurised cheese. The French guests (who eat unpasteurised cheese all the time) were absolutely fine and couldn't understand why we were all puking up. As you say, if you're not exposed to it you don't build up a resistance. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

A couple of updates this evening. One of the teenage victims is sadly in critical condition apparently and her lawyer has already said that substantial damages are on the cards and the possibility of criminal prosecution.

Further to the above, the boss of Merlin Entertainment has conceded that safety was not adequate. He's got to be in the running for the no sh Censored Sherlock award.

What's more sad is that she has appointed a "lawyer" already, or someone has on her behalf.

At this stage, surely it is more important that she gets better - the issue of "com-pen-say-shun" is a conversation to have way way way down the line. Bloody parasites! Foraging near Gaydon....

I bet their phones were ring off the hook from the were theirs a blame parasites

Can't understand though, why they refer to things as life changing injuries, not amputations if that's what has happened

It could be life changing because they got a bad gash and a bad bruise if the parasites got them a few hundred grand compo Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

17 year old girl involved in the crash has had her leg amputated above the knee. That will also have a big psychological impact on her and may restrict her career aspirations. I feel sorry for her and she deserves compensation but I know only too well from a serious incident that almost killed my dad that money can't even begin to compensate for such serious life changing injuries.

Very sad Doc.
I was 21 years old and had to wait over a year before I knew that I was going to keep my leg. I had the luck of 'Old Nick' according to my surgeon.
At the time I met many people who had lost limbs; some dealt with it better than others although I suspect a degree of bravado covered many things.
When I saw the news today, my mind went back to when after I'd given my consent to have my leg amputated; the horrid feeling of looking under the covers after surgery. I can't explain just how bad that is. Mine was still there, so lucky.
Must admit even though I don't know the girl, I've shed a tear for her today.
Of course, it could have been worse, she could have lost her life. But that'll be little consolation for the pain both physical and mental that she will be feeling now and in the future.
My heart goes out to her and her family.
I wish her well and hope that she has the inner strength to get on with her life Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
